New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) released a new format for Class 11 and Class 12 question papers. The changes will be implemented for the Class 11 and 12 exams in 2025. In the revised question paper format, the percentage of competency-focused questions in Class 11 and 12 exams will increase from 40% to 50%.

As per the revised format, the percentage of constructed response questions for Class 11 and Class 12 exams will go from 40% to 30% in next year’s exams. The percentage of select response-type questions (i.e. MCQ-type questions) will remain at 20%. There have been no changes in the question paper formats for Class 9 and Class 10 exams so far

CBSE also outlined the reason for these changes in an official notice. The notice said, “The main emphasis of the Board was to create an educational ecosystem that would move away from rote memorization and towards learning that is focused on developing the creative, critical, and systems thinking capacities of students to meet the challenges of the 21st century.”
