Dr. Mohit Mahajan is the Owner and Chairman of Golden College of Engineering and Technology, Gurdaspur, Punjab. He has done MA, M.Ed and Ph.D. as part of his academics and has a total of 40 years of amazing experience in the education sector. He is also the State President of Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas Institute which comes under Golden Group, Golden College of Engineering and Technology, Golden Institute of Management and Technology, Golden Polytechnic College, Golden Senior Secondary School and Shri Nangli Academic Public School.

How would you describe your leadership style?

I think a true leader is one who can motivate all the team members and stakeholders to achieve higher objectives and fulfill even impossible looking goals using his skills, experience and knowledge. And the importance of leaders will increase even more keeping in view the quickly changing employment landscape and global ecosystem,and from a leader perspective, it's crucial to address the needs of children and ambitious youths not only to learn from them, but more importantly to make them understand how to learn. 

Being the Chairman, what are your roles and responsibilities for the institute and students? 

In my opinion, our students are our real stakeholders and being the Chairman of the institution, it’s my prime responsibility to work dedicatedly for their betterment and ensure they get an employable friendly environment inside the college campus. Hence, we have implemented the feedback mechanism in our college under which we regularly take inputs and suggestions from our young minds so that we can provide the best education, facilities and opportunities to them. 

What do you think should be the institute’s top priority over the next 10 years?

As we all know, new technologies are coming every day and scientific developments are taking place at a rapid pace, particularly involving Mathematics, Computer Science and Data Science, hence multidisciplinary abilities across the Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities will be in great demand in upcoming time. Hence our priority for upcoming years is to focus on enhancing the employability and technical skills of our students for which we have carved out a comprehensive plan. Apart from this, we are moving from technical education to a multi-disciplinary mode of education keeping in view the rapid changes in the knowledge landscape.

What would you like people to know about your college that makes it unique and different from others?

We offer finest quality and employment oriented education to ambitious youths and our campus is very old and we have an excellent reputation in region· Also our main objective is to make students future and industry ready and for this, every faculty member of our institute puts 200% effort to make sure students achieve their targets and be ready for this cut-throat competitive world while passing out from our college. Hence, students will get the best knowledge, support, career guidance and learning opportunities for a bright future.

What are some of the biggest challenges you see for higher education in general?

In my opinion, the biggest challenge in front of the higher education institutions is to provide world class higher education to students at an affordable fee. Apart from this, improving the research and development quality and facilities and increasing industry-academia collaboration to provide better skills enhancement and employability opportunities to students are also some of the other hurdles institutes need to address on an earliest basis. And hence, the higher education system and educational policies should be redrafted as per the requirements of the present world scenario and the recently introduced National Education Policy will act as a ray of hope here.

Any suggestions which you would like to give to the aspiring students and youths of our society?

As I always motivate my dear students to set higher and practically achievable goals in their life. So I would like to suggest to my students and ambitious youths of our society that give your best in whatever work you do because everything is possible in this world and you need to do hard work and stay focused and dedicated towards your aspirations. So develop career oriented skills and be ready for the opportunities that come your way and make best use of them.
