Dr. Vijay Dhasmana is the Vice Chancellor of Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU). He has completed M.Sc. in mathematics and computer science and Ph.D. He owns 25 years of experience in finance, strategy, administration, and education. His outstanding work has awarded him many prestigious awards, like ‘Dr. B.C. Roy Award,’ ‘Uttarakhand Ratna Award,’ ‘Garhwal Vibhuti Award,’ and ‘Vice Chancellor of the Year 2021 Award.’
What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?
As a University, we understand our role in nation-building by enhancing the development and preparing the future generation to undertake tremendous responsibilities. Several factors are crucial in the education sector, such as the economy, job market, industry skills, curriculum, etc.
Since its inception, we have endeavored to provide affordable education to the students. Through our dedicated PDP and Placement Cell, we work with each student on their overall personality and provide 100% support for student placements. We not only invite Industry experts to review and update the curriculum regularly, but we also keep on adopting industry best pedagogical practices. We endeavor to provide a platform and an environment for constant learning and hands-on experience.
What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?
Our philosophy of leadership is around ‘Yogaḥ Karmasu Kauśhalam.’ We strive for excellence. Our efforts are skillful, loving, and selfless. We practice transformational leadership as it directly impacts the effectiveness of the teaching faculty. Our Professors continuously work on upgrading their skills and improving their classroom practices. I am humbled to mention that Stanford University recognizes two of our researchers as the world’s top scientists. We have also been pioneers in Uttarakhand, especially in health services. Be it the first kidney transplant center, dialysis center, cardiac surgery, etc. We were the first NABH accredited Private Hospital in the State. We are also the topmost in India in patient care under AYUSHMAN.
How do you strategize about the programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your College?
We closely study the new developments and the market forces influencing the future area of research and demand for the workforce. As pioneers in the selected field, we have created programs to contribute significantly to society. We consider the availability of resources and experts who work out the curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment and manage execution. Building commensurate infrastructure leveraging technology is essential in the whole strategy and plan. For marketing and administration, we have a competent team in place. To create awareness about any new program, we follow the marketing’s fundamental principles.

How does the curriculum of Swami Rama Himalayan University ensure the best practice of industry?
It is important to note that the curriculum is built by inviting industry experts and incorporating their inputs across all programs. We have workshops/seminars conducted by Industry experts who directly address the students. We provide hands-on training so that the learning is experiential and students develop a practical approach. We organize industrial trips. We also send our students for summer internships to get the feel of working in their chosen sector/industry.
Any insights into how your college could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?
We are open to students from all corners and encourage diversity. All our admissions are based on academic eligibility criteria set by the University. University has also had students from countries like Nepal, Iran, etc.
We have several scholarships in place based on merit or means. There are also scholarships available for differently abled, transgender, etc. There is also Free-ship Scholarship wherein we provide free education to one student in each University program who is an orphan or does not have an earning member.
We have a Student exchange program with Foreign Universities. Recently 30 students from 14 different countries visited our University. We have invited many foreign faculty to address our students. We will soon be hosting a Nobel Laureate at our University.
What are your roles and responsibilities to the college and the students?
For students, the primary responsibility is to provide a conducive learning environment and encourage critical thinking, knowledge advancement, and truth-seeking in a student. In addition, I also promote opportunities to students that they achieve high by encouraging independent research and providing research-informed learning opportunities.
I work towards University's academic and administrative interests, contributing to educational planning, policy development, budget preparation, optimum utilization of resources, and maintaining the goodwill of the University.

What would you like people to know about your college they may not know?
In 1995, we were the first in Uttar Pradesh, now Uttarakhand, to open a Private Medical College in the State, followed by a Nursing College in 1996. 1200-bed, NABH-accredited Himalayan Hospital is associated with our Medical College. Stanford University recognizes two of our researchers as the world’s top scientists.
We have over 300+ teaching faculty and 1100+ research papers in national & international journals. We have over 70 national & international collaborations. We have eight academic units with 45 departments, offering over 110 UG, PG, and Ph.D. programs in medical/paramedical sciences, nursing, engineering, management, biosciences, yoga sciences, and vocational. We also have a Hill Campus in Toli.
We provide 100% internship and placement support. Our students are in 200+ organizations, the highest package being 25 Lakhs p.a. average package varies from school to school.
