Dr. Pammi Sri Venkata Narayana has been working as the Dean of Research and Development and Professor in the Department of Basic Sciences and Humanities at GMR Institute of Technology, Rajam, Andhra Pradesh. He has done Bachelor and master courses in Physics with specialization in Electronics, both from Sri Y.N. College -Narsapur of Andhra Pradesh. Further, he has completed a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Chungnam National University -Korea Republic. During PhD, he worked on Thin films, Nanostructures growth techniques including CVD, ALD, PLD and Sputtering techniques and methods including Chemical Solution, Green synthesis methods), Lithography and other etching methods etc. along with material characterization techniques (SEM, AFM, TEM, XRD, XRF, PL, TPRL, UV-Vis, IR and Raman). Data analysis experience of AES, RBS, XPS and PIXE, Windows (XP, 7), Data analysis using software like Origin, Image J, Adobe Photoshop, XPS curve fit for XPS data analysis, RUMP and RBS data simulation etc. are some of his key skills.
Along with this, his research interests are Optoelectronic Devices, Sensors (Light, rays & pressure), memory and LED, 2D Materials – Graphene, 2 D materials for electronic devices, Green Chemistry for Health care and biomedical applications. During his professional journey, he has taught Engineering Physics, Nanomaterials & Technology, Functional Materials & Applications to B.Tech students, Optics, Thermodynamics, Modern Physics, waves and Oscillations to B.Sc. students and Laser and Optics to PG students.
During his early career days, he worked as a Lecturer of Physics in Sri Y.N. College and later after PhD, as a budding Research Scientist under DST-Purse Program and as an Assistant Professor in Andhra University. Before joining GMR, he worked as a principal investigator (PI), Co-Principal Investigator and also as a Research Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering in Chungnam National University. He has presented 66 research papers in international publications as author and co-author in various reputed national and international journals with 2600+ citations. He has also published 1 in conference proceedings and has presented 4 in national conferences, seminars and workshops.

GMRIT is an Autonomous Engineering college established in the year 1997 by GMR Varalakshmi Foundation – the corporate social responsibility arm of GMR Group. Being the Dean of GMRIT, what is your philosophy of leadership?
I strongly believe that true leadership is all about empowering and inspiring others so that they can give their best by utilizing the available resources and guidance. Also, a leader is very humble and positive by nature. So being the Dean and Professor of GMR Institute of Technology, I closely observe and monitor how other educational institutions are performing and what unique initiatives they have implemented in terms of Research and Development so that I can contribute my best in upgrading the infrastructure of our college and help my students and fellow teachers grow on both personal and professional level.
How do you strategize the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your college?
In my opinion, action speaks more than words. Hence, we don’t emphasize much on marketing. We work for the best to provide the opportunities and education to our aspiring students so that they can perform well in exams, grab amazing job profiles in reputed companies and make us proud and enhance the reputation of our college in return.

How does the curriculum of your college ensure the best practices of industry?
We thoroughly analyze the trends and developments of the outer competitive world and industrial sector before drafting and updating the curriculum of our college and if required, we take suggestions and feedback from experts and eminent academicians from time to time to stay compliant. Along with this, we offer integrated skill-based courses to supplement the knowledge of our students along with certification programs from online learning platforms like Coursera.
How is your institute more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?
We believe in the fact that education should be accessible to all irrespective of their races or economic backgrounds, hence our college offers scholarships to underprivileged students and also to those who secure valid scores in entrance exams like EAMCET. Along with this, we encourage them to apply for different kinds of fellowship. Also, any kind of discrimination or inequality is strictly prohibited on our campus and finest learning windows are provided to each student.
Being the Dean and professor, what are your key responsibilities towards the college and students?
As a Dean of the institution, my prime responsibility is to create a suitable research ecosystem on campus so that our students and faculty members can exhibit their ideas in reality using their classroom knowledge. Apart from this, ensuring students’ academic and non-academic queries are addressed and resolved on time and they get educated about actual working of the real world on time also comes under the scope of my work. Last but not least, supervising college and department activities and guiding fellow faculties as and when needed is also part of my job.
