Dr. Subho Chattopadhyay is the Director of PAL College of Technology and Management. He is a UGC NET qualified Management teacher whose area of interest is in Marketing and Brand Development. He holds a Doctorate in Business Administration and he is a research guide for PhD scholars at two different universities.

During Dr Chattopadhyay’s career as a management teacher, he has conducted several MDPs and has been a resource person for training programmes conducted for the Ministry of MSME, Army Officers, University teachers, Chartered Accountants and entrepreneurs. Besides three books authored by him, his published work includes research papers in national and international journals, articles in magazines and chapters in books. He also serves on the editorial board of some national and international journals in the field of management.

For Dr. Subho’s contribution to academics and for his endeavour in the development of students, he received the “Best Citizens of India” Award from the International Publishing House, New Delhi, in 2017. In July 2019, the World Education Congress conferred on him the award of “100 Most Dedicated Professors.” He is also the recipient of the Dewang Mehta National Education Award 2019 for "Best Professor in Marketing Studies.”

You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

Many people in the education industry are motivated by the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of students. They see education as a means to empower individuals and shape their future. Education is a dynamic field that is evolving with new research, technology and methodology. Professionals in education often appreciate the opportunity to continue learning and stay up-to-date with the latest trends and innovations. Working in education provides a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Teachers often find satisfaction in contributing to the intellectual and personal development of their students. Teachers are often encouraged to be innovative and creative in their teaching methods. This creates a stimulating and dynamic work environment that can attract people who like to think outside the box.


Being the Director of PAL College Of Technology And Management, what is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

Leadership always comes from the front. It is my job as a leader to help the team achieve excellence through hard work and integrity. A possessive leader is one who follows and is followed by others. To influence, inspire, support and motivate others. My main priority is student well-being and academic success. I believe in creating a nurturing environment that supports their holistic development both academically and personally. Effective leadership is not about one person but about collaborative efforts. I will encourage a culture of teamwork among faculty, staff and administrators to achieve common goals and enhance the overall performance of the institution.


Being the Director of Management Pal College, how do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your school?

As the director of a management college, developing an effective strategy for marketing and administration is crucial to the success of the organization. I need to identify the target audience for management programs. This may include recent graduates, working professionals, or individuals seeking a career change. I look into developing a strong and unique brand identity for the college. By clearly defining the college's value proposition we are able to communicate what differentiates it from other institutions. We also make use of digital platforms for marketing, including a well-designed website, social media, and online advertising. 

We also engage in content marketing to showcase faculty expertise, success stories and program highlights and host events such as open houses, webinars, and information sessions to give prospective students insight into programs, faculty, and campus life. Developing a comprehensive strategic plan that outlines the organization's goals and objectives is important and ensures alignment with the overall mission and vision. We also regularly evaluate and update the curriculum to meet industry demands by combining effective marketing strategies with sound administrative practices.

How does the curriculum of the college ensure the best practice of industry?

Many institutions have strong relationships with industry leaders. This may include inviting industry experts as guest lecturers, organizing industry visits, or incorporating real-life events from specific companies into the curriculum. Some universities have created advisory boards made up of industry experts. Their advice provides insight into current industry trends and helps in planning to ensure the curriculum is relevant and up-to-date. The curriculum should be regularly reviewed and updated to reflect the dynamic nature of the industry. This includes emerging trends, technologies and management practices. Universities are often involved in research activities that contribute to the advancement of management theory and practice. This research can explain the curriculum, ensuring that students are exposed to the latest developments.


What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the University and the students are?

My foremost responsibility is designing and delivering lectures effectively and efficiently. I also oversee the development of the curriculum and teaching materials, mentoring students and assessing student performance through tests, assignments, and projects. I encourage everyone to conduct research in their field of expertise, organize and manage administrative tasks such as entry and registration and coordinate events and activities on campus. We are also dealing with financial matters such as budgeting and treasury management while ensuring compliance with academic policies and regulations. Academic and career counselling for students and helping students develop educational and career plans are crucial for us, along with helping students navigate the college experience. The administration focuses on maintaining the physical infrastructure of the College and providing technical support for IT related issues.


What do you think should be the college top priority over the next 10 years?

The main priority of the college is to excel in education and research. Our core strategy is to recruit outstanding faculty members and retain them for decades. Experienced teachers can bring miraculous changes to our educational ecosystem. We plan to generate significant revenue from research and consultancy. It will change our entire approach to projects and research-based learning.
