TS EAMCET Preparation Tips
In interviewing TS EAMCET 2022’s topper, Mustafa Khan, currently pursuing a BE in CSE at Osmania University, he shared some insights about his preparation tips:
What challenges did you face while taking TS EAMCET exam preparation?
I was initially preparing for JEE Mains. Hence, I was able to cover the majority of the syllabus at a higher level, than what is required for the exam. Even after this, there were a few key challenges I faced. Since it was the time of COVID-19, I mostly lacked the availability of one-to-one assistance from a teacher. Online assistance does not come at par with classroom assistance.
Secondly, I believe many students will face the same issue since EAMCET is a state-level exam, there aren't a lot of credible or popular courses offered for EAMCET preparation. I couldn't find good video lectures for EAMCET online on YouTube, even if there were any, the majority of them were in Telugu and I am not well-versed in Telugu.
Moreover, the pressure of solving 160 questions in 180 minutes is too much sometimes, lack of practice or lack of time management may cause a lot of trouble. Because of this at the end stages of my preparation, I was looking for good free mock tests for EAMCET for time management practice and had a hard time finding any good ones.
These were the major three challenges I faced during my preparation. I feel like a major challenge that many students that I have seen (my friends) face is that they give up at an early stage of preparation, they don't have enough motivation to keep on doing the hard work and because of that, they couldn't get a rank.
Is the difficulty level of JEE Main similar to that of TS EAMCET?
The questions are very easy as compared to JEE Mains, the simple reason being the number of questions being more for the same time frame of 180 minutes. Hence the questions tend to be on the easier side.
Will preparing for JEE Main alongside TS EAMCET be foolish?
I wouldn't say it to be a foolish attempt, but rather one must be aware of their limitations in such cases and make a decision themselves. As I said JEE Mains is on the difficult side as compared to TS EAMCET, hence more efforts are required. Just by preparing for the exam, it is quite not possible to crack JEE Mains. On the other hand just by preparing JEE Mains, one can attempt and possibly quite easily crack EAMCET (as was in my case). Simultaneously, preparing for JEE Mains and EAMCET is possible since both share the same syllabus. However, different levels of difficulty which must be analyzed by the students themselves before starting the preparation.
What is the ideal time to start preparation?
For TS EAMCET, in my opinion, 1 year of strategized preparation is sufficient to achieve a good 4-digit rank or below.
Which is the hardest to prepare among the Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics?
Mathematics, because of the vast syllabus and also more weightage in EAMCET that is 80 out of 160 questions are from maths alone, and a bit tough to prepare the vast syllabus and formulas.
Which chapters from each of the three subjects should be focused on mostly and completed first as well?
In Maths conic sections, the application of derivatives and integration has a good weightage. There are a lot of small and easy chapters from where definite questions will be asked like limits, quadratic equations, and inverse trigonometry these chapters are on top of my mind right now. In physics, the highest weightage is generally seen from modern physics, and in chemistry, the inorganic chemistry part is very easy and scorable and also holds good weightage in the paper. Mostly direct questions from the NCERT textbook will be asked in Inorganic Chemistry.
Which subject should be attempted first to get more time in the last 1 hour?
Since I was quite good at maths and a bit weak at Physics what I did in my exam was attempted all the questions which I could from Chemistry and Maths in the first 1hour. The major part of the next hour I finished off with Physics. It is always advised to attempt all the questions irrespective of whether you know the correct answer or not since there is no negative marking. For the last 1 hour, I went through the questions that I had left in Maths and Chemistry. During my first hour of the exam and attempted them all and also made sure I attempted all 160 questions. I advise to attempt the paper with the subjects you are perfect with since it creates a sense of confidence throughout the paper.
How does speed matter in TS EAMCET examination?
Since we have to attempt 160 questions in 180 minutes and most of them will be easy, the outcome comes down to the speed of an individual. If someone has more speed then they can solve more questions getting more marks. Without possessing the ability to tackle the questions with speed and accuracy it becomes difficult to get a good rank.
What tips would you suggest to students who need to work on speed?
For those struggling with speed, especially for TS EAMCET, I would suggest they practice the questions, whatever they solve during their preparation in a fixed time frame. For example, fix a time duration to solve a list of questions from a particular subject and so on. Another way could be to increase the frequency of mock tests to get an idea about how much one is lacking in the speed with which they solve the questions.
Is NCERT enough to get the fundamentals of each subject for beginners?
Yes, NCERT is enough to get down the fundamentals for each subject. Moreover for Chemistry, NCERT alone will suffice for the most part. Apart from that for all 3 subjects I would recommend Arihant’s past year question paper book, it has a good collection of all the important questions from the past around 25 years with detailed answers, good for both learning and practicing. For a more in-depth understanding of concepts it is recommended to enroll in a coaching center or a course of some kind and follow their comprehensive material.
How does the level of questions remain in TS EAMCET exam over the years?
It has been more or less the same, there are few instances where the previous year's questions are being repeated, hence sometimes making the paper easier. Except for 1 or 2 papers every year where unexpectedly the level seems to be quite high. But I believe nevertheless the competition is steadily increasing because of more number of candidates in the examinations who have become serious about their preparation mostly because of the abundance of information on YouTube and other online resources.
Do questions repeat from the last 10 years?
Yes, they do repeat occasionally, may not be exact but with very slight changes.
If one is preparing for the 2025 exam, which year is it enough to practice the questions?
For 2025 aspirants, I would recommend them to practice the papers from 2019-2022 and give any 5 papers from 2023-24 as a mock test and if time permits then practice the remaining papers. Since there are many shifts we have got a lot of question papers from the past 5 years itself.
Is attending a coaching institute necessary for cracking TS EAMCET with a good score, or is self-study enough?
I would not say necessary but it has a considerable advantage over others. Having enrolled in coaching will help us stay organized as opposed to self-study both in terms of frequency of mock tests and preparation progress. Apart from that self-study is required to be able to excel in any domain not only in competitive exams. So yeah self-study also plays a vital role here.
Which one is the best cheat code for TS EAMCET?
Mock tests top every other strategy since it gives us a real-time simulation of how the exam will be
When did you start your mocks?
Along with my preparation, I remember starting giving mocks around Feb 2022, around 5 months prior. I used to give like 1 or 2 mocks a month.. then just a week before I browsed and downloaded a lot of PYQ papers and attempted them all in a set time (maybe gave around 5 PYQ paper mocks just a week before the exam)
When should one stop studying and start focussing on mock tests?
Two weeks before the exam one must start giving mock tests. With a frequency of three per week with proper analysis. But before that halfway into the preparation, one must start giving a mock test of the covered syllabus with a frequency of 1 every two weeks or so.
TS EAMCET Mock Tests
The mock tests help students to get the same exam day-like vibe, with the time set as 3 hours for completing. It is also regarded as one of the best cheat codes to get used to with the exam pattern and topic-wise weightage of questions. In Collegedunia, we have created mock tests with the previous years’ questions for both BiPC and MPC. Start practicing here without losing a penny:
