Punjab NEET Counselling 2026: Step-by-Step Process
The Punjab NEET Counselling 2026 process has multiple steps. You must complete each step within the given window to stay in the process. Missing any deadline removes you from that round’s allotment.
Step 1: Register and Pay the Fee
Visit bfuhs.ac.in once the registration window opens. Fill in your NEET UG 2026 details, personal information, and educational qualifications. Upload your documents and pay the registration fee. Keep the payment receipt safe.
Step 2: Check the Provisional Merit List
BFUHS prepares a state merit list based on your NEET UG 2026 score and category. The provisional merit list is published on the website. Check if your name and rank are correctly mentioned. If there is an error, raise an objection within the given window. BFUHS releases the final merit list after resolving objections.
Step 3: Fill in Your College and Course Preferences (Choice Filling)
This is the most important step. During the choice-filling window, you must log in and enter your preferences for colleges and courses in order of priority. You can enter as many choices as you want. Your seat allotment depends directly on your merit rank and the choices you fill. Always fill government colleges first if you want a government seat.
Step 4: Seat Allotment
BFUHS processes your preferences along with all other candidates’ preferences and your merit rank. The system allots you the highest available preference from your list. You get only one seat per round. The allotment letter is published on the website.
Step 5: Accept the Allotment and Pay the Security Deposit
Log in and accept your allotted seat online. Pay the security deposit (₹10,000 for government colleges, ₹1,00,000 for private colleges). If you do not accept and pay within the given time, your allotment is cancelled.
Step 6: Document Verification at BFUHS, Faridkot
Carry all original documents to BFUHS, Faridkot for physical verification. This is mandatory. Documents are verified by officials before you can report to the college. BFUHS issues a joining letter after successful verification.
Step 7: Report to the Allotted College
Take the BFUHS joining letter and all original documents to your allotted college within the reporting window. The college completes your admission formalities and fee payment.
If you are not satisfied with your allotted seat in Round 1, you can participate in Round 2 and fill higher preferences to upgrade. Keep your Round 1 seat active while you wait for Round 2 allotment, since you only need to leave Round 1 if you get a better seat in Round 2.
Punjab NEET Counselling 2026: Merit List
BFUHS prepares the Punjab NEET Counselling merit list based on your NEET UG 2026 score. Only candidates who register for counselling within the given window appear in the state merit list. A higher NEET score gives you a better rank in the state merit list.
How Is the Merit List Prepared?
- Primary Basis: NEET UG 2026 total score (out of 720)
- Tie-Breaking Rule 1: Candidate with higher Biology marks gets preference
- Tie-Breaking Rule 2: If Biology marks are equal, higher Chemistry marks decide
- Tie-Breaking Rule 3: If Chemistry is also equal, fewer wrong answers in Biology decides
- Tie-Breaking Rule 4: Fewer wrong answers in Chemistry is the final tie-breaker
Types of Merit Lists in Punjab NEET Counselling
BFUHS releases category-wise merit lists. There are separate lists for General/Unreserved, SC, BC, EWS, PwD, NRI, and other special categories. Your rank in the relevant category list decides your seat preference options.
- Provisional Merit List: Released first — candidates can raise objections within 24–48 hours
- Final Merit List: Released after resolving objections — used for actual seat allotment
- Round 2 / Round 3 Merit Lists: Fresh lists prepared for each subsequent round after new registrations
The merit list for Punjab NEET Counselling 2026 is expected in late July 2026, a few days after registration closes.
Punjab NEET Counselling 2026: Documents Required
You must carry all original documents to BFUHS, Faridkot for verification. Missing even one document can lead to rejection. Keep at least 4–5 sets of self-attested photocopies of all documents ready.
- NEET UG 2026 Admit Card (original)
- NEET UG 2026 Scorecard / Rank Letter (original)
- Class 10 Mark Sheet and Certificate (for date of birth and age proof)

- Migration Certificate (if you studied outside Punjab for Class 12)

Punjab NEET Counselling 2026: Seat Reservation
Punjab follows a reservation policy for MBBS and BDS seats in government medical colleges. The reservation applies to the 85% state quota seats in government colleges and the 50% government quota in private colleges.
Category-wise Reservation in Punjab Government Medical Colleges
| Category | Reservation (%) | Approximate Seats (out of 100 state quota seats) |
|---|---|---|
| General / Unreserved | 50% | 50 seats |
| Scheduled Caste (SC) | 25% | 25 seats |
| Backward Classes (BC) | 5% | 5 seats |
| Economically Weaker Section (EWS) | 10% | 10 seats |

| Children/Grandchildren of Freedom Fighters | 1% | 1 seat per 100 |
| Border/Backward Area | 1% | 1 seat per 100 |
PwD reservation is horizontal — meaning PwD candidates compete within their own category (General PwD, SC PwD, etc.) for 5% of seats in each vertical category.
Private College Seat Quota Structure
- Government Quota (50%): Allotted through BFUHS counselling with the same reservation policy as government colleges
- Management Quota (35%): Open to all-India candidates; college fills these seats independently at fees set by the state fee committee
- NRI Quota (15%): For NRI, OCI, and PIO candidates; separate fee structure in USD
You need the correct category certificate from the competent Punjab authority. Certificates from other states are not valid for Punjab state quota counselling.
Punjab NEET Counselling 2026: Round-wise Schedule
Punjab NEET Counselling 2026 will have 3 main rounds plus a stray vacancy round. Each round gives you a chance to get or upgrade your seat. You can participate in all rounds if you have not yet accepted a final seat.
Round 1
Round 1 is the first and largest allotment. All eligible registered candidates participate. You fill choices, and BFUHS allots seats based on merit rank and availability. In 2025, Round 1 allotment was done by August 15, 2025. If you get a seat in Round 1 and you are happy with it, you report to the college and your admission is confirmed. If not, you can participate in Round 2 to seek a better option.
- Open to all registered Punjab domicile NEET qualifiers
- Expected timeline: August 2026
- Allotment based on merit rank and choice order
- Security deposit must be paid within 48 hours of allotment
Round 2
Round 2 fills seats vacated by candidates who surrendered Round 1 seats plus any seats that went unfilled in Round 1. Fresh registrations may also be allowed in Round 2. You can upgrade your seat in Round 2 if a better preference is available for your rank. BFUHS prepares a revised merit list before Round 2 allotment.
- Round 2 expected timeline: September 2026
- Seats surrendered from Round 1 are pooled back for Round 2
- Objection window on the Round 2 merit list is typically 24 hours
- Candidates who participated in Round 1 must reactivate their participation for Round 2
Round 3 / Mop-Up Round
Round 3 is the mop-up round for all remaining vacant seats. Fresh registrations are allowed. Candidates who missed earlier rounds can apply. This round typically fills seats in private colleges and less-preferred government options.
- Round 3 expected timeline: October 2026
- Fresh registration allowed for candidates who did not participate earlier
- Remaining government and private seats filled through merit
Stray Vacancy Round
If seats still remain after Round 3, BFUHS may conduct a stray vacancy round under direct supervision. This is a very short window and may require physical presence at BFUHS Faridkot for spot allotment.
- Stray vacancy expected: Late October 2026
- Very limited seats available
- Spot allotment in person at BFUHS campus
Never wait until Round 3 to register if you have a good NEET score. Most government MBBS seats in Punjab are filled in Round 1 itself. If you miss Round 1 registration, your chances of getting a government seat are very limited.
Punjab NEET Counselling 2026: Preparation Tips
Punjab NEET Counselling 2026 requires careful planning beyond just getting a good NEET score. The choice-filling step and document readiness are equally important. Here is what you should do now to be fully prepared.
Before Registration Opens
- Get your Punjab domicile certificate ready. This is the single most important document. Apply for it immediately if you do not have one. Processing can take 15–30 days depending on your district.
- Collect all original documents listed in the documents section above. Keep them in a single folder. Many candidates face rejection during verification due to missing documents.
- Check if your category certificate is valid. SC, BC, and EWS certificates must be from the competent Punjab authority. Check the issue date — some certificates have validity limits.
- Research the colleges thoroughly. Visit the official websites of GMC Amritsar, GMC Patiala, GGSMCH Faridkot, and other colleges you are considering. Check their hostel availability, fee structure, and hospital infrastructure.
During Choice Filling
- Fill as many choices as possible. There is no penalty for filling more choices. The more choices you fill, the better your chances of getting your preferred seat.
- Always put government colleges first if your priority is lower fees and stronger clinical exposure.
- Do not leave any good option out. Even if a college is not your first preference, add it lower in your list. You can always decline an allotment later, but you cannot get a seat if you did not fill that college in your choices.
- Base your choices on your realistic rank, not just your dream college. Use the marks vs rank table and previous year cutoffs to shortlist feasible options.
During Counselling Rounds
- Do not skip Round 1. Most government MBBS seats are filled in Round 1. If you miss Round 1 registration, your chances of a government seat drop sharply.
- Participate in Round 2 even if you got a seat in Round 1. You can upgrade to a better college if your rank allows it. Your Round 1 seat is safe until you accept a new allotment in Round 2.
- Keep your documents ready for same-day verification. BFUHS sometimes processes allotment letters and verification on very short notice.
- Track the official BFUHS website daily during counselling season. Schedule changes happen frequently and official announcements may come with very short notice.

Ques. How many rounds are there in Punjab NEET Counselling 2026?
Ans. Punjab NEET Counselling 2026 has 3 main rounds — Round 1, Round 2, and a Mop-Up Round (Round 3). A Stray Vacancy Round may also be held for any remaining seats after Round 3. You can participate in all rounds to seek a better seat. Most government seats fill up in Round 1, so registering early is important.
Ques. Can I upgrade my seat in Round 2 if I get a seat in Round 1?
Ans. Yes. If you accept a Round 1 allotment and then participate in Round 2 with a better choice-filling order, BFUHS will allot your highest available preference if your rank permits. You only leave your Round 1 seat when you formally accept a new Round 2 allotment. If you do not get a better seat in Round 2, your Round 1 seat stays intact.
