The LSAT 2026–2027 testing cycle runs from August 2026 to June 2027 and includes 8 administrations. Registration for each administration closes several weeks before the test date, and scores are typically released 21–30 days after the test. As of today (September 18, 2026), the August and September 2026 administrations are complete.

LSAT 2027: Detailed Exam Pattern

The LSAT 2027 detailed exam pattern comprises four back-to-back sections of 35 minutes each. Three sections are scored and one is an unscored variable (experimental) section used by LSAC to norm future questions. You cannot identify the variable section during the test — treat all four sections as scored. The separate LSAT Writing task is completed remotely via LawHub at any point after registration and before law school applications.

There is no per-section time limit override — each section is strictly 35 minutes and you cannot carry over unused time.

Note: The four multiple-choice sections may appear in any order. An optional 10-minute break is provided after the second section. LSAT Writing is completed separately, not on the same day as the multiple-choice test.

LSAT Marking Scheme 2027

The LSAT 2027 marking scheme works on a two-step scoring process: your raw score (the number of questions you answer correctly) is converted to a scaled score between 120 and 180 using a score conversion table specific to each test administration. This conversion accounts for slight variation in difficulty between different test forms. There is no negative marking — a wrong answer and an unattempted question both score zero, so you should always attempt every question.

There is no negative marking in LSAT 2027 — attempt every single question, even if you are unsure, as a guess carries no penalty.

LSAT Subject-Wise Exam Pattern 2027

The LSAT 2027 subject-wise exam pattern covers two content areas: Logical Reasoning and Reading Comprehension. Logical Reasoning makes up approximately 65% of your scored questions (two full sections), while Reading Comprehension contributes the remaining 35%. There is no Mathematics, General Knowledge, or subject-specific knowledge section — the LSAT tests only reasoning and comprehension skills.

Logical Reasoning (2 Scored Sections)

Logical Reasoning tests your ability to analyze, evaluate, and complete short arguments. You encounter a stimulus (a short passage or argument) followed by a question asking you to identify a flaw, strengthen a conclusion, find an assumption, or draw an inference. Reading Comprehension (1 Scored Section)

Reading Comprehension tests your ability to read and understand complex passages — the type of material you will encounter in law school. Each section contains four passage sets: three single passages and one comparative reading set (two shorter paired texts). Variable / Experimental Section (Unscored)

The variable section is an additional Logical Reasoning or Reading Comprehension section used by LSAC to test and calibrate questions for future exams. How to Prepare Based on LSAT Exam Pattern

Your LSAT 2027 preparation strategy should be built directly around the exam’s structure — two Logical Reasoning sections dominate your score, in-person testing is the new norm, and every question carries equal weight with no penalty for guessing. The tips below are derived from the pattern itself.

1. Prioritize Logical Reasoning above all else. Two of your three scored sections are LR, contributing ~65% of your raw score. Mastering LR question types — especially Flaw, Strengthen/Weaken, and Assumption questions — produces the greatest score improvement per hour of study.
2. Build Reading Comprehension speed and precision. The RC section’s 26–28 questions in 35 minutes means about 1 minute 20 seconds per question. Practice active reading of dense, law-review-style passages, and develop a system for quickly identifying main point and author’s tone.
3. Attempt every question — no exceptions. There is zero negative marking. A blind guess on questions you cannot solve still gives you a 1-in-5 chance of a correct answer at no cost. Never leave a question blank.
4. Treat all four sections as scored. Since the unscored variable section is indistinguishable from scored sections, you must bring full effort to every section. Mentally giving up on one section because you assume it is experimental is a high-risk strategy.
5. Prepare for in-person testing conditions. Starting August 2026, the LSAT is exclusively in-person. Practice under timed, distraction-present conditions — use earplugs if needed, follow Prometric center rules on personal items, and simulate the environment during your practice sessions.
6. Familiarize yourself with the new LawHub interface. The 2026–2027 cycle uses a redesigned test delivery interface.
