How to Prepare for the Entrance Exam?
- Preparation for these exams requires the candidate to be conceptually strong in the topics of basic mathematics as well as proficient in the English language as an entire section is dedicated to this.
- There are three sections in the CAT exam. They are: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude. The number of questions in each of the sections are also different. Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension along with Quantitative Aptitude consists of 26 questions whereas Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning consists of 24 questions. Apart from doing all the questions accurately, the candidate also needs to take care of the Sectional time limit in the exam. This means that each section of the three sections in the exam has fixed time. This fixed time is 40 minutes.
- The exam pattern for CMAT is likely to remain the same as that of previous years. CMAT question paper will contain 100 questions of 4 marks each. Candidates will be evaluated in Quantitative Technique, Logical Reasoning, Language Comprehension and General Awareness area. For every correct answer you will be awarded 4 marks. For every wrong answer a penalty of 1 mark will be deducted. The time limit for the exam is 180 minutes or 3 hours. CMAT questions will be objective in nature. Unattempted questions will be awarded no marks. Answering about 75 to 80 questions with an accuracy of 80 to 90 percent should fetch you good marks. Continuing from the first point, do not try to aim for too many questions. It is better to answer fewer questions correctly than losing marks to negative marking due to incorrect answers. Do not stress over the GK section in CMAT exam. If you have not prepared enough before, nothing can be done. It is a reflection of your reading habits and there are no last-minute tips to excel in this section.
- Accuracy is the key in this exam as the candidate needs to score high percentage of correct questions as opposed to high percentage of questions as there is a negative marking and the chances of one’s percentile dropping increases substantially with negative marks.
