Vivante is the college fest that happens in the month of March but regular celebration for Onam, Diwali, Ganesh Chaturthi etc. The library which is not large but which you'll get good enough books. Students are engaged in lot 0f club activities like profession (bio club), birding club, fovea (photography club), jijivishaa (drama club) etc. Annually our college also conducts a quiz competition India-wide where different colleges from India do participate. I don't know much about the scholarship but their DAAD scholarship which provides enough amount to pay. We don't have any jobs provided by the college l. It depends on the career you choose and move.

For each new batch, there is a fee hike of 10% from the previous batch, which is fine as per national standards. But when we see it in numbers, It feels very high. When this continues, people will feel extreme difficulties affording the fees in the next 10 years. Being Lower middle class financially, It's difficult for us too. There are scholarships and fee waivers but most people won't be able to avail of them. The tuition fee waiver is only for those belongings to SC/ST. KVPY provides a monthly stipend for its scholars which is around 5-7000 per month but I don't think there are any KVPY scholars in my class. There is another scholarship scheme by DST called INSPIRE that provides 5000 per month to very few students. The cutoff for INSPIRE goes around 96-97% for the CBSE board and similar for other boards. Also, you won't be eligible for INSPIRE if you are a dropper. Of the 200 students in my class, there are around 10-11 INSPIRE scholars. There is no Fee waiver for economically weak people.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this college without planning as I couldn't get a desired seat in IIT. But I think it was for good. The course is a wonderful primer on the path of becoming a scientist. Compared to other colleges, IISER Berhampur has a quite good faculty: student ratio. But most of them are pretty good as people and as teachers. We manage to conduct all classes without fail. But I'd like to see an increase in the number so that the research area can be broadened. The faculty here have all completed their Ph.D. and postdoc and all have some good prior experience in research and teaching. I like most of the instructors that have taught me except for a few one or two. The exam schedule is given right with the calendar release of each semester before the semester starts. Sometimes there might be changes in the schedule but we are informed around 2-3 weeks earlier in that case. Exams are not hard to pass if you attend classes and study sincerely. Questions are not asked beyond the concepts being taught.

IISER Br hosts its annual fests: KYRAT in April and Science Fest in November, as well as various fests such as food fests, cultural fests, and so forth. IISER Bpr's campus life is quite dynamic; every festival from every state and culture is celebrated on our campus. We have a central library with a large number of books and access to prestigious periodicals such as Science, Nature, Elsevier, and others. AC, chalkboard, projector, water cooler, TVs for displaying slides, and blackboard for pupils sitting in the back are all provided in the classroom. The sports facilities are good, we have a volleyball court, basketball court, handball, football ground, tennis, Cricket pitch and nets, athletics, running track and indoors like carrom, chess, table tennis, gym khana. There are many student-run active clubs in our institute like the physics club, chemistry club, biology club, mathematics club, cultural club, art club, music club, dance club, drama club, film club, sports club, eco club, etc.

Course Curriculum Overview:

IISER Bpr offers cutting-edge scientific research facilities. If you want to succeed in science, IISERs are the place to be, since they provide research training with cutting-edge technology and instruments from a young age. The professors at any IISER are highly qualified and prominent scientists from institutions such as MIT, Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, Tier, IISc, and many others around the world. Due to a large number of pupils, the faculty: student ratio stands out as a deficit. Semesters are typically four months long, with assessments based on projects, quizzes, assignments, lab work, mid-sem, and end-sem. Campus Life:

The campus life is good, if not great. The name of our annual fest is "KYRAT". It is conducted either in late march or in early April month. There is a library on our permanent campus where all kinds of educational as well as fictional and story books are stacked. Many prominent journals are also available in the library. One gets access to daily newspapers in the English language as well as other regional languages. Classrooms are well designed with some digital projectors and stand televisions so that even the student sitting on the last bench can also easily notice what sir is teaching. Our campus provides facilities for all kinds of sports including cricket, badminton, table tennis, football, kho-kho, kabaddi, etc. There are sufficient arrangements on our campus for dance and musical activities. There are many science and eco clubs on our campus, e.g. La Vida (Bio club), 137 inverse (Physics club), Chemshala (Chemistry club), Astronomy club, Music club, Film club, Dance and drama club.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:

The fee structure is quite minimal in our college. IISER Berhampur charges a total of 54,200 rupees per semester which includes hostel fees, tuition fees, etc. The mess fees have to be separately paid which accounts for Rs. 3600 for a 30-day month and Rs. 3720 for a 31-day month. The semester fees keep increasing per year by approximately Rs. 5000. So, a student has to spend approximately 1.5 lakh rupees per year which include both semester fees and the mess fees. Our college provides scope for Inspire scholarship. Under this scholarship, a student gets Rs. 5000 per month and an additional Rs. 20,000 if the student performs any offline internships in the academic year. There are 2 conditions for getting this scholarship. Firstly, one shall be a fresher when he/she takes admitted to IISER college, and secondly, he/she shall be among the top 1% in 12th board result in his/her respective state board or central board. Our campus does not provide scope for any direct jobs after BS-MS.

Campus Life:

Campus Life is pretty good. The hostel is amazing. You'll get a single room here(btw a few rooms are double bedded). The campus is ragging-free. Seniors are very cooperative with us. They are very helpful. You can find all course-related books in the library. If you like extracurricular activities then you can take participate in IICM & IISM. There are lots of clubs like la vida, 137^-1, chemshala, etc.

Course Curriculum Overview:

If you only think about your placement then don't go for it but if you want to be a researcher/scientist then IISER is the best option for you. There are lots of highly educated faculty in our institute. Their teaching method is really awesome. You ask them any doubt at any time. Yeah, exams are a little bit difficult. After choosing a major in your 3rd year you'll find the difficulties.

Campus Life:

In my college, IISER BERHAMPUR, there are a lot of fests the whole year. You will be encouraged in sports, Art and other extra curriculum activists. There are many clubs actively working on this, I am a member of the art club. There will be lots of competitions and talks of renowned people in a field to encourage youths. There are also other educational clubs working on interesting fields and encouraging students about science. I can tell you about the Mathematics club in brief. It is really fascinating, I am glad to be a part of this club.

Course Curriculum Overview:

According to me, this is a very helpful course if you want to go into research fields. The students who love to explore the subjects and like to study basic science will definitely get the importance of this course. In my college, the faculties are very helpful and generous. They always try to show you different paths of exploring the subjects and the philosophy behind them. This helps students a lot to think differently.

Campus Life:

IISER TVM campus is one of the most beautiful campuses in India. We have an annual cultural fest (IISHYA) conducted in the month of April every year and a sports fest(ITSAV) conducted in October. There is a central library on the campus having almost all the books and journals for our study-related purposes. Students can access books from the library with their ID cards. Classrooms are air-conditioned which can accommodate 300 students. IISER provides great opportunities for students who love sports. The sports council of IISER TVM conducts football, basketball, and badminton matches often. There is a gym where students can work out. Social groups and clubs are common here discussing relevant social issues, music, and dance clubs for the students who are interested. The quiz club conducts quizzes often.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose the course since I am really interested in science and related studies. Faculties are well qualified and knowledgeable. There are two exams conducted in each semester, a mid sem and an end-sem. Both these exams are held as per the academic calendar. Their results are also released fastly. Generally, exams are difficult and questions are above average level but the grading is relative and there is a higher chance to get passed.

College Events:

Campus life of IISER Mohali is very enjoyable and it is very necessary to remove the study stress from students. There is shopping complex and canteens where you can sit for a long and eat and talk to your friends as much as you like but one drawback is that there is no night canteen in the college. Every festival is celebrated here with full enthusiasm.

Course Curriculum Overview:

IISER Mohali has an amazing and exremely friendly faculty. All faculties are very talented and have their phd and post doc from world's best universities. They are very friendly and always available for students to help them in their studies and project. Course curriculumn is very well maintained.

College Events:

A lo of extracurricular activities, competitions and trips are organized by various clubs of college. Filmy nights are also there. Annual Foundation is celebrated every year in which school students from North India are invited and beautiful science experiments are shown to them by students of IISER Mohali. Annual cultural fest is INSOMNIA which held mainly in starting of March. It is a big event.

Remarks:

I choose IISER because I didn't get admission in IISc Banglore due to low rank in KVPY. My main motto was to become a scientist and study basic science from best college of the country and in this field IISc is best but IISERs are also not bad and among all 7 IISERs IISER Mohali in terms of education, infrastructure and social life.

Course Curriculum Overview:

My opinion on course curriculum is that it should be a little bit flexible for first two year students as students from non math background face very difficulty in clearing mathematics course and also a lot of mathematics is also involved in chemistry and physics and some faculties even don't care that every student doesn't this high level of mathematics so this is the most drawback of IISER Mohali.

College Events:

There are a lot of clubs in the college which organize a lot of club activities like talks and various competitions. If you have any idea or you also want to start a new club then you can also do that. Faculties and administration is very supporting in this.

Ques. Should I pursue electrical engineering at IIT Jammu or geophysics at IIT Kharagpur?

● Top Answer By Vishal Sharma on 20 Jun 24

Ans. I think I am qualified to answer this question as I graduated from IIT Kharagpur Geology and Geophysics department and I am working for ARM Group in the Middle East. You should choose IIT Kharagpur due to following reasons:- Geophysics offers great opportunities to apply numerical, quantitative, and computational methods to geological investigations. IIT Kharagpur is ranked 6th in NIRF ranking while IIT Jammu is ranked 67th . IIT KGP focuses on holistic development and thus has a rich extracurricular culture that helps develop bonds between students of different branches. IIT Kharagpur has a median salary of 18 LPA , whereas IIT Jammu pays 17 LPA . IIT Kharagpur is one of the oldest IITs, established in 1951 . It has better infrastructure and a larger campus area of 2100 acres.Read more
