The curriculum isnt something that got me to take admission in the college but the course is very interesting and the faculty is really nice. In terms of preparing us for the real world the curriculum is actually set out to solve real world problems. They can improve in teaching methods by taking more tests, conducting more experiments and checking up weather students actually understood the concepts

the course i enrolled in is BA psychology economics journalism. It's a triple major course. I attend the third shift which is from 4 o'clock to 9 o'clock in the evening. The fee structure varies according to the combination you're in. My course costs a fees of around 75000 for one year. you get to pay the yearly fees in two installments. I paid it as 40 thousand in the first semester and 35 thousand for the second semester approximately. This covers all costs including tuition fees, lab fees, admission fees and compulsory charges. As I applied in the general category I don't get any financial aids. The fees also varies according to the second language you choose. The university offers a great campus environment and lab facilities. There are also areas for lounging and spending free hours. The library is amazing with a great collection of books both for entertainment and research. There are also two canteens available for the students, teachers and staff during all shifts.

Faculty:

There are different batches of staff for almost every shift which makes it easier for the staff and students to access. The staff rooms are always open to the students and the faculty are all very friendly. Each class is assigned two mentors with whom the students are supposed to meet with atleast once every month. All grievances and dissatisfaction can be shared with them.

Annual fests like Bhasha Utsav and Silhouette are the most fun. They have a lot of activities. On Bhasha Utsav, the biggest fest of Christ University, you get to wear the ethnic clothing of your state/region. There is DJ and everything and its very fun to spend with your friends. A lot of sports events like Pedagogic League happen where both pros and amateurs can compete. H the library here spans 5 floors. There are numerous clubs under the various departments and there is an event or the other happening nearly every day

Faculty:

A lot of the faculty do spend time in getting to know the students. One my faculty actually sat with me for a while and talked to me about my future studies at lengths. They are invested in the students and make sure they come across as such. The exams are moderately difficult, but with the right amount of notes, readings, and other material, its not a challenge to pass. I think atleast 90% of my class passes each time

Course Curriculum Overview:

The psychology course was really interesting as they had started off with general psychology so as to make us understand the basic concepts. They moved into the child psychology and abnormal psychology gradually. We also had statistics for practicals. We had conducted alot of psychological assessments on our fellow students. We were able to understand the minds of adolescent through adolescent psychology. We used to go to workshop, and industrial visits which helped us gain insight in the real world . The exams were relatively on a moderate level of difficulty.

Faculty:

The engagement among the faculties and students was really good. The faculty was young and approachable attitude times helping the students with their academic and personal challenges. A few of the psychology lecturers we had were really empathetic and kind. Another english lecturer who always looked after us like a mother. We used to have an internal assessment, a mid term , a orefinal and the end sem exam. Most of the students passed only a few here and there have failed . The course taught was really interesting and motivating to pursue it for higher studies

Faculty:

The faculty to student ratio is low. It is one professor on around 65 students. Despite that, it is manageable and the faculty is fairly approachable as long as it is not one of the HODs even then it is not as hard to approach them regarding doubts. The psychology faculty is very good. The professors are all well and highly educated and they never fail to pass their legacies on. There are two end semester examinations in one year. Apart from the main exams, there are Internal Assessments throughout the year and their scores add to the credit collections during the result calculations. There are 3 course specific disciplines (4 credit each), one general elective (4 credit), one skill enhancement course (2 credit), one ability enhancement course (2 credit) and one value added course (2 credit). The exams are of minimally tough level and with bare minimum preparation one can pass them. Despite that from each class around 3-4 students fail to clear them.

Campus Life:

Mostly there are not much annual festivals. The biggest is the Annual Fest that is conducted around April every year. The fest has a good funding and is a good experience to have. The library is not as maintained as it should be and there is not much availability of the course related materiel. There is a need for redoing its infrastructure as well as for updating the readings and journals. The sports teams apart from cricket and handball are not active. The basketball course was demolished due to more requirement of land for the new building and it was never remade again. There is a need for better infrastructure in sports department. The student run groups and societies are very active and provide a fresh way to improve and enjoy the collage life along with experiences that can alter one's skill and enhance them in a more practical environment.

Faculty:

The faculty-to-student ratio is good, like there are around 15-20 professors for around 90 students. I just can't take the name of the faculty without their consent but as a whole, I like all of them. Up till 2nd year, we had 7 papers and in 3rd year, we have 6 papers. As such students do not fail but a few get ERs in few subjects. The course i.e. Psychology is very relevant.

Campus Life:

The campus life is good but at the same time it is hectic too as we know assignments, reports and all. Shruti is the name of our Annual Fest which is really nice and there are various societies in the college and students can be a part of those societies if they are eligible for it. Overall it is nice and ofcourse experiences do provide a lot of knowledge.

Ques. Which is better for BA in psychology- Jai Hind or St. Xavier College Mumbai?

● Top Answer By Supriyo Sen on 19 Jan 21

Ans. Among the two institutes mentioned, St.Xavier College, Mumbai is better for a BA in psychology.  The table below will give you a brief overview of the two colleges. Parameters Jai Hind St.Xavier College Fee structure INR 16,200 (for 3 years) Rs 17,625 (for 3 years) Placement rate (2020) - >90% Average salary package (2020) 3 LPA 6.5 LPA Comparison:  Both the institutes provide good learning opportunities, but the difference is St. Xavier is autonomous and hence better. As St. Xaviers is autonomous, it can update the syllabus anytime, if needed. While Jai Hind is affiliated with MU and follows the same syllabus as MU. Which may not be updated.  Xavier’s also conducts its own examinations. So any problem caused in the result published by MU will not affect the students of Xaviers.  Like any other autonomous institute, Xaviers also publishes its results first. So, students get the first preference for a job.  While containing a degree from MU through Jai Hind is quite convenient since university and college will both have a set of mark sheets. From the academic point of view, St. Xaviers College is better than Jai Hind College Mumbai.Read more

The total course fee is approximately 21.35 Lakhs for three years. The major in Psychology focuses on the development of expressive and analytical skills that are the basis of critical thinking, investigation and communication in the field. The department offers a range of courses structured around three tiers: Fundamental courses, Core Domain courses, and Electives. The course is spread over 6 semesters. Top recruiting companies include Brain and Company, Mckinsey, Boston Consulting Group, Dalberg, Samagra, MuSigma, Earnst and Young, IIFL, Genpact, Team Computers, Katalysers, InfoEdge, etc. The psychology program at Ashoka is a good program but nevertheless, it is quite competitive. Ques. How is Aryabhatta College of DU for psychology?

● Top Answer By Aakash Das, on 28 Oct 21

Ans. One of my friends studied Psychology at Aryabhatta College. According to her, it is really great as it offers immense exposure and opportunities. The college, though being a new establishment, is growing rapidly academically. The college is very strict and has certain rules and regulations to maintain its discipline. 75-80% attendance is compulsory. The faculty is highly experienced and cooperative. The department organizes guest lectures on a regular basis from eminent people in the field of psychology.  Srijan, the psychology association of Aryabhatta college is a very active society. Being in Delhi University South Campus there is the ease of transportation.  The student crowd is also very good. Therefore, you can consider this college as a good option not just for psychology but for other courses as well. It might be a little less recognized among other DUs but it will surely provide you with the proper exposure.Read more
