The Central Rice Research Institute, Cuttack, was established in the year 1946, situated in Orissa. The Central Rice Research Institute is a rice, scientific research institute that conducts basic, applied and adaptive research on crop improvement and resource management for increasing and stabilizing rice productivity. The institute not only played a key role in ushering the country of an ear of green revolution heading to self-sufficiency in food grain supply in about 25 years from its inception, but also brought glory to the nation by providing research support in rice.

It was a three year long course and we had semester-based system, the examinations were conducted in those semesters. The curriculum was so designed that the students could work on their research projects and had the full exposure and opportunity to explore more things. The presentations were taken regularly in the classrooms by the mentor teachers.
The current PhD program differs from the one I was enrolled in. There were regular discussions, a few compulsory lectures, seminars, presentations, and lab work. I worked in DNA fingerprinting off gall midge biotypes and their resistance genes in rice.
The PhD research was three years long and included all kinds of researches related. The curriculum was so designed that the students could practise their respective researches very flexibly. The presentations and related meetings were organised at the end of every month where we had a meeting. The examinations were conducted forget throughout the semesters.
The PhD course does not have a stringent course guidelines, there are a minimum number of reviews for both books and articles and laboratory work is given prime importance. The course is flexible and I am involved in molecular characterization of the new kinds of bacteria in rice crops.
PhD in agriculture is a professional full time doctorate program which has the duration of 3 years and follows semester system. The course structure is very good and is well organized and balanced. The labs are well equipped. The days and exams are tiring.
Test is in semester design. Where passing is for seventy five imprints. For passing we need to peruse various types of books. Question in assessment are of various decision question, we need to stamp that answer on om sheet.
The course has always been one of the finest courses that the college has taught. There are many research papers that are also included in the course. There are regular revisions that are made in the course curriculum. There are examinations both for theory and practical subjects.
