The overall general fee for completing this course is 3,51,000 INR i.e. too much for most of the students. Let's breakdown the fee structure, the course is divided into 4 levels. First phase or level is foundation containing 8 courses that you can complete in 8 months if you go at maximum pace, the fee of foundation level is 32,000 INR, 4K for each course. After completing all the 8 courses a student is promoted to Diploma level which consist 2 Diplomas that takes your 1year and 6months at maximum pace , the fee to complete diploma is 1,25,000 INR. After completing all courses and projects of diploma level students reach Degree level (BSc) where they provide flexibility of taking courses and now promotion is depend upon credits instead of course completion, the fee for this may vary from 2,21,000-2,27,000 INR (from starting). After completing the credit criteria students are promoted in BS degree level which is similar to BSc degree level and its fee varies from 3,15,000-3,51,000 INR.

The fees structure varies with the level of the course. For foundation level fees is 32k. But for diploma level it is more than 60k. Scholarship is given on the basis of caste Like if u are general ews and ur family income is less than 500k per annum then u would get waiver of 50% If u are ews and your family income is less than 100k then u would get fee waiver of 75% For more details please visit iitm website. U if maintain 8+ cgpa then u would get teaching assistant job in iitm

For the foundation course, the fee is 32000 and the for diploma and degree level the fees are different. For exact details of the fees, I would recommend visiting the website study.iitm.ac.in for the latest and accurate information as it keeps on changing as the degree is new. If you have a lower family income and you belong to a lower cast the fees can be as low as 1.50 lakh for a whole degree of 4 years If you do not belong to any of the above categories, the maximum fee you will pay is around 5 lakh for the whole 4 years of a degree. There is a fee reservation by CSR funds. And a scholarship for good academic performers. I have not got any job yet, I am in the first year of course.

The fees are very reasonable as it is a government institute, and you get a fee waiver if your family income is the guided slabs. You get a 50% fee waiver and a 75% waiver. You can also go for internships if you want to earn some extra money to support your education, IIT Madras allows you to do that, you can also get internship or Teaching Assistant Jobs on the campus as well for experience.
