Government Polytechnic College was established at Sirsa in Haryana on 1962 by the efforts of Sh. Sardar Partap Singh Kairon, the later Chief Minister of the Joint Punjab. The college offers 3-year diploma courses in different streams of Engineering. The admission into the diploma takes place based on the marks of the qualifying exam only and it is done online. Lateral entry seats available for the students after 12th. After completing diploma course in Polytechnic, students can opt for B.Tech. or B.E. for a career in engineering or can opt for a technical based role.

Admission to Government Polytechnic at Sirsa will be made purely on the basis of merit i.e., marks obtained in the qualifying examination. The eligibility for two modes of admission are as follows:
- Diploma Engineering (including HGST, KM, EWS and TFW Categories)- Candidate must have passed 10th with 35% marks (33% in case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes category or Kashmiri Migrants Category).
- Diploma (Engineering) Lateral Entry (including TFW Category)- Candidate must have passed 10+2/ ITI (02 years)/ (10+2) Vocational /NSQF level 4 as per the compatibility of the courses.
