The course has changed a lot from last year due to the NEP guidelines. The new curriculum provides cross-faculty minor courses through which we learn about not only our course but a completely different one too. It is a very new model of timetable and we are the experiment batch. Some suggestions I would give are to provide minors which are related to our subject so that it would be useful to us in future also providing better options in choosing electives. One positive I found is the honours programming which gives us the option to directly take Phd once done with our bachelors. Also the free exit system is also helpful.
INR 108027 is the fees for the three year under graduate course. There are limited scholarships for general category students. Financial supports given to students in form of fee waivers and concessions.
The first year of the course curriculum includes subjects like fundamentals of mass media, History of ideas, radio and tv, economics, etc. The student may find it pretty unexpectable to have a curriculum that doesn't restrict the required reading to certain books. In the first year itself, the students will get to know that mass media is not only about creating content or in the tv and film industry or journalism. With subjects like history of ideas and management, marketing, theory of media, advertising in the second year; students will realise the importance of critical as well as creative thinking. The professors encourage this through the various topics that they cover in these subjects.
My college is an autonomous college. Hence, according to me, the syllabus is updated from time to time. Because of the Covid situation, we don??t get to go anywhere ofcourse, but the industrialists com for some guest lectures. The faculty include Professor Vidya Hegde, Professor Sandra Vaz.
Course curriculum is well thought of interms of relevance for the age of students and relevance to what different fields they want to go into. The faculty tries to keep the syllabus updates and new modes of teaching also has been taken up.
This course of BMS was fit for me. Bachelor in management studies is what i always feel i should go for and i did. Also the exam's were conducted on time and the students ratio were equally judge and separated by the college.
I wanted to get into journalism which is why this was a safe bet. However, while attending the course, I feel everyone’s intellectual capacity has been challenged and upgraded. so we’re now encouraged to look at different fields like Marketing, Management, Research, Academia, etc. apart from classic media options. The faculty student ratio is pretty nice- 1:65 Due to the special nature of the course, the department of BMM is like a close knit family. The course has a liberal arts orientation with moderate emphasis on practical skills like photography, designing etc. The teaching method pushes you to become an independent learner and break free of the conventional way of learning that has been going on in schools (of spoon feeding). The exams are conducted timely, efficiently and are easy. Only students who haven’t studied economics in the past (in school) might face some issues but that said, it’s a smooth experience.
The course syllabus was very up to date. I could have done with more industrial exposure. Our faculties were good too but most of them were visiting faculty and due to the uncertainty of their full time jobs schedule they we're not able to attend all our classes.
My course has a very good curriculum which focuses on a practical approach rather than literary. we have plenty of projects throughout the year which makes it seem hectic. But if one has to evaluate at the end the learnings, one would realize that they learnt a lot through those projects. We also have industrial visits where we drop by radio stations, etc.
Expensive, because ours is a self funded couse with full benefits, apple labs, light boxes everything is fully modified state of the art technology.
