What students say about Dalhousie University

  • For me, Dal is better than most universities because of its co-op program, which almost guarantees job placement.
  • Most of us have obtained internships, and the criteria are simply to successfully complete the semesters and put forth our best efforts during interviews, with appealing resumes and cover letters.
  • Most of my friends in co-op get a job with one of the companies they worked for.
  • The clubs, events, and extracurricular activities on campus, as well as the research facilities, libraries, WiFi, and sports facilities, are awesome. We have all the recreational facilities for the students.
  • I live off-campus because of my budget and the type of food I eat differs from the on-campus meal.
  • For Masters students, there are not many scholarships available, but teaching assistantships and best student awards are offered.
  • Dr. Pemberton Cyrus, Dr. Claver Diallo, and Dr. Uday Venkatadri have probably been the best faculties from whom one can learn.
  • I chose this college due to its high ratings and the diversity of its student population.

  • Dislikes:
  • The University is based out of Halifax, which is a small city. Most of the students have to look for jobs in other provinces and relocate after graduation. This can be tedious and also costly as one would have to pay for the basic setup in a different city.

Overall, my experience has been great at Dalhousie University. The course curriculum they offered and the Professors putting in some efforts to really see their students excel is something very rare. The university also offers a good health infrastructure to its students when needed. I have learnt a lot from my experience and that is indicated on my profile as I have such clear understanding of the concepts which I can apply in my professional experience.

  • Dislikes:
  • Some mandatory courses I think is not useful for all. Not all students will like to attend data management course for example. Apart from that I think course content is good and effective if one likes or have interest

Overall I had good exposure with University. I have seen growth in my knowledge as well as in communication specifically when it comes to technical talk. University offers an opportunity where we need to present our work in front of leaders, and tell about the invention we did. It is really helpful.

I did my own research. I got to know this is one of the colleges where I can apply from my range of marks. But this was the last in my last to go. I have applied to many universities like Waterloo, Alberta. According to my score, I was pretty confident that I would get into a better university for sure. Dalhousie was last in my list, but I got admission here. So I got to know the flavor of competition going on in Canada.

It is in a city that I have visited and wanted to live in and it is a very strong research school. I only applied to this school but I applied to several different programs within the school. I performed well academically in high school so I appreciate the challenge of some of the courses at this school.

My academic score is good but the sole purpose I have chosen this college is one that I have friends and relatives living in Halifax, other reasons include the internship benefit of the course, short tenure, less academic stress, high chance to be part of Atlantic nominee program. One more thing is that Dalhousie is one of the top universities in Canada that I can afford. As I completed my Bachelor's in Computer Science, I am sure that I need to enhance my knowledge in the same field, so that?s the reason for my master's in computer science.

Picked this university because it was the most reputable in my area, I did not want to travel too far, and by going here I can live with my sister and watch my nephew grow up. The public transit option is a great way to get to and from school without having to waste more time and money looking for a parking spot every day.

I chose this university because of the location and the program that was offered. The program included a Co-op program which will help me in the future with a future career in this field as it is very competitive.

This particular university is quite nearby to where I live which is a big factor (I wanted to stay in Nova Scotia). I also heard a lot of good things about the kinesiology program before beginning my degree here at Dalhousie.

I received the most money in scholarships at Dalhousie. I was also interested in the medical science program which I got accepted to. It was close to home so I would still be close to my family which was a plus.

I opted for this college because of the high ratings it has and because of the diversity of its student population. The quality of education is also really high and very research focused. Moreover, I love it because my friends are also a part of my community and I get to maintain these relationships
