What students say about University of Utah

Likes

  • The course content is both very relevant and diverse, with accomplished faculty members in various areas of CS.
  • About 50% of the students got placed in the industry, some of whom are postdoctoral fellows at good universities.
  • Yes, the guarantee scholarship is $8,000 per year for valedictorians of a high school.
  • I stayed off campus, but they have something going on every week. The library is insanely huge and has every book you would ever need, with WiFi available everywhere on campus.
  • Accommodation is available on campus, and there are also apartments available close to the campus.
  • The ratio is around 10:1; the faculty is very good in their respective fields. Many have won national and international awards in advanced math.
  • The location was ideal, given that the campus is within Salt Lake City but remains separate from the city, which allows for a college campus feel of living rather than city living.

  • They have a poor job placement efforts for students. Not much help is delivered and one is left on their own for this.

The University is great overall. Great faculty and courses. Part-time work is plenty and TA/RA opportunities are better.

Nice city, good ranking, decent department, comparatively cheaper city than California or New York and supportive administrative staff.

The location was ideal given that the campus is within Salt Lake City, but remains separate from the city, which allows for a 'college campus feel' of living rather than city living. It is also close to the number of our outdoor sites.

Public transit, Affordability, Reputability. My granddad and dad went here. I learned to love the campus as a 'second home' after I came to classes with my dad when he came back for his Master's degree.

I found the faculty and courses to be interesting and there's a high chance of getting funded here. It has good research opportunities; although I did not take advantage of them.

It's a highly ranked university in the entire US, and the school of computing has some renowned professors as well as facilities to nurture the students according to the current industry needs. Also, the location is really picturesque with all the mountains & natural resources.

Liked the professors working in my area of interest (algebraic geometry at the time) and talked to the PhD students who were studying there at the time, and got a good vibe from that.
