Northumbria University admissions require Class XII at 65% for undergraduate entry and a Bachelor’s at 55% or higher for postgraduate entry. The university confirms September as its primary intake, with January as a smaller second intake, and most Indian applicants apply directly online without paying an application fee.

  • Next live deadline: 6 August 2026 for the September 2026 international intake, the primary window for Indian applicants.
  • Base tuition: starts at £19,850 (around ₹25.31 Lakhs) per year, with no application fee for direct international applications.
  • Eligibility floor: UG needs Class XII 65% plus IELTS 6.0, and PG needs Bachelor’s 55% plus IELTS 6.5.
  • Acceptance rate: estimated at 55 to 65%, based on third-party analysis of Newcastle intake patterns.

Business, Computer Science, Data Science and Project Management pull the largest Indian cohorts, and public reviews on the Northumbria University overview profile flag graduate employability of 93% within 15 months and Newcastle’s lower cost of living as recurring pluses over southern-England peers.

Status: Closing Soon. The September 2026 primary intake for direct international applicants closes on 6 August 2026, roughly four weeks from today. Northumbria charges no application fee for direct online submissions, so Indian applicants can lodge without a payment step. The £5,500 (around ₹7.01 Lakhs) tuition deposit is due 13 August 2026, followed by a CAS request window closing 20 August 2026.

Northumbria University Application Deadlines for Indian Students

Northumbria runs two intakes per academic year, September and January, per the official Northumbria application deadlines page. Indian applicants use the international-applicant deadline (6 August 2026 for September) rather than the UK-domestic UCAS window, which closed on 14 January 2026. Undergraduate applicants who did apply through UCAS pay a separate £28.50 (around ₹3,633) UCAS platform fee to UCAS, not to Northumbria. For a course-wise fees breakdown across all programmes, see the Northumbria fees and course listing.

Northumbria’s primary intake for Indian students is September 2026, and most master’s, bachelor’s and MBA programmes open here. January 2027 is smaller and covers a subset of postgraduate courses plus phased Professional Health programmes.

Planning note: The 6 August 2026 direct international deadline is the last live window before Northumbria stops taking September 2026 applications. If you miss it, roll to January 2027 general PG (30 November 2026 deadline) rather than waiting a full year for September 2027.

Northumbria University Eligibility Requirements for Indian Students

Northumbria publishes India-specific entry marks on its dedicated country page for Indian applicants. Requirements are read as minimums, and individual courses set higher floors where the discipline needs it (Nursing, Physiotherapy and Pre-Registration Midwifery ask for IELTS 7.0, for instance).

Northumbria University Academic Requirements

  • UG entry: Class XII at 65% and above from CBSE or CISC.
  • PG one-year, 2:2 route: Bachelor’s at 55% (52% for Delhi, Mumbai and Pune universities).
  • PG one-year, 2:1 route: Bachelor’s at 60% (Delhi, Mumbai and Pune included at 60%).
  • PG two-year Bachelor’s route: 60% regardless of classification.
  • Master’s degree entry: 55% minimum.
  • Graduate Certificate: 45% and above with an ordinary undergraduate degree.

Northumbria University English Test Minimums

Northumbria accepts eight English tests. Postgraduate applicants in MSc Data Science and most computing courses need IELTS 6.5 overall.

Northumbria University IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

Northumbria exempts nationals of 17 English-speaking countries (including Australia, Canada, USA and Ireland) from any English test. Indian applicants are not on that list. However, an Indian student who has completed an academic qualification equivalent to a UK Bachelor’s degree or higher, taught in one of the listed English-speaking countries, can request a waiver. A Class XII English-medium certificate from an Indian board is not accepted as a standalone waiver, though a strong Class XII English mark can support a borderline test score in discretionary review.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Northumbria India requirements page for your chosen program before applying.

Northumbria University PG Programs for Indian Students

Postgraduate taught tuition at Northumbria splits into two main tiers for 2026/27: standard classroom-based programmes at £19,850 (around ₹25.31 Lakhs) and lab-intensive or business-computing programmes at £21,500 (around ₹27.41 Lakhs) per year. Two-year Advanced Practice variants add a paid work placement year at £24,500 (around ₹31.23 Lakhs) total. This section covers eligibility and English minimums per programme rather than a full fee breakdown, which stays on the fees article.

Insider note: Delhi, Mumbai and Pune university graduates get a lower 52% cutoff for 2:2 courses. Bring your official transcript with the university name printed on the mark sheet so the admissions team applies the concession without a query.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Northumbria international masters fees page for your chosen program before applying.

Northumbria University UG Programs for Indian Students

Northumbria’s international undergraduate tuition for 2026/27 sits at £19,850 (around ₹25.31 Lakhs) per year for Arts, Humanities, Social Science, Law, Nursing and Psychology, and £21,500 (around ₹27.41 Lakhs) per year for Business, Computer Science, Engineering and Applied Science tracks. Indian applicants apply either through UCAS by the January cycle deadline, or direct to Northumbria as an international applicant by 6 August 2026 for September entry.

Planning note: A UG placement year adds a paid year in industry and costs only £1,955 (around ₹2.49 Lakhs) in tuition for that year, per the official fee schedule. It is a strong ROI lever for Indian students eyeing a Graduate Route work extension after the degree.

Northumbria University MBA Admissions for Indian Students

The Newcastle Business School MBA runs in two variants for 2026 entry. The full-time MBA is a 12-month course for international students under the Business tuition tier at £21,500 (around ₹27.41 Lakhs), and the Executive MBA is a 2-year part-time programme priced at £24,000 (around ₹30.60 Lakhs) total for UK students. The Executive MBA does not offer international sponsorship, so Indian applicants on a Student visa must choose the full-time variant.

Northumbria MBA Work Experience and Test Policy

Newcastle Business School asks for a 2:2 honours degree (around 55% Bachelor’s) plus three years of professional work experience for the Executive MBA. Applicants without a degree can still be considered if they hold substantial managerial experience. GMAT and GRE are not required, which lowers the prep load for Indian applicants versus the LBS or Warwick pathway.

Northumbria MBA Interview and Selection

An interview is required for candidates admitted on experience alone, or where the applicant is not in current relevant employment. Interviews run online for Indian applicants, typically inside two weeks of a completed application, and cover leadership examples plus a rationale for the MBA at this stage.

Insider note: Newcastle Business School holds Triple Crown accreditation (AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA), one of only around 100 schools worldwide with all three. This is the shortest signal to Indian recruiters that the MBA sits in the globally credible tier.

Northumbria University PhD Admissions for Indian Students

Northumbria charges PhD tuition on four fee bands for 2026/27, set by project cost rather than discipline. Full-time international bands run £18,430 (around ₹23.50 Lakhs) for Band 1, £19,795 (around ₹25.24 Lakhs) for Band 2, £22,525 (around ₹28.71 Lakhs) for Band 3 and £26,620 (around ₹33.94 Lakhs) for Band 4 per year, per the official research fees page. Part-time fees are 60% of the full-time band.

Northumbria PhD Application Steps

PhD applications are open year-round, and start dates cluster in October, March and July. Applicants must first identify a supervisor whose research profile aligns, agree on a 3-page research proposal, and then submit through the applicant portal with the proposal, CV and two academic references. Interviews follow within four weeks.

Northumbria PhD Funding for Indian Students

Northumbria runs university-funded Doctoral Studentships each year, covering tuition plus a stipend at the current UKRI rate (around £19,237 or ₹24.53 Lakhs per year for the 2025/26 academic year). Applications are competitive, and Indian applicants are eligible where the studentship advert does not restrict eligibility to Home fee status.

Note: Project-specific funding and stipend amounts may differ from the university-wide bands shown above. Always confirm on the official Northumbria research fees page for your chosen doctoral project before applying.

Northumbria University Application Process for Indian Students

Postgraduate and direct international undergraduate applications go through Northumbria’s applicant portal. Undergraduate applicants routing via UCAS follow the standard January cycle. There is no application fee for direct submissions to Northumbria, so the process starts with account creation and finishes with an offer letter.

  1. Create your applicant account on the Northumbria applicant portal and choose the September 2026 or January 2027 intake for your programme.
  2. Upload documents: passport bio page, Class XII mark sheet, Bachelor’s transcript (for PG), degree certificate, English test scorecard, CV and 500-word statement of purpose.
  3. Add two references: one academic, one academic or professional. PhD applicants add a 3-page research proposal.
  4. Submit the application. Northumbria charges no application fee, so submit directly without a payment step.
  5. Receive your offer letter in around three to six weeks for standard PG and UG applications.
  6. Firm your offer by accepting through the portal and preparing to pay the deposit.
  7. Pay the £5,500 (around ₹7.01 Lakhs) tuition deposit via credit card or WUGlobal Pay bank transfer. Allow two weeks for the payment to clear.
  8. Request your CAS once your unconditional-firm status is confirmed and the deposit clears. CAS is issued from April 2026 for September starts.
  9. Apply for your UK Student visa using the CAS number. Book biometrics at a VFS Global centre in India.

Northumbria University Admission Decisions Timeline

Offer letters typically arrive within three to six weeks of a completed application. Conditional offers list outstanding items (English score, final transcript, Bachelor’s completion). You have six weeks to accept an offer before it expires. Northumbria allows one deferral to the next equivalent intake without a fresh application, granted the request reaches the admissions team before CAS issue.

Northumbria University Documents Required for Indian Students

All documents are uploaded to the applicant portal at the point of submission. Scanned colour copies are accepted at the offer stage, though the university may request certified copies before CAS issue. Send documents in PDF form, each under 5 MB.

  • Passport bio page valid for the full duration of study.
  • Class XII mark sheet and pass certificate for UG applicants.
  • Bachelor’s transcripts (all semesters) and degree certificate for PG applicants.
  • English test scorecard (IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, Duolingo or LanguageCert).
  • Statement of purpose of 500 to 800 words linking prior study, career goal and programme choice.
  • Two references on official letterhead: one academic mandatory.
  • Updated CV with education, work experience and internships.
  • Research proposal of three pages (PhD applicants only).
  • Portfolio (Architecture, Design and Fine Art applicants).
  • Work experience letter on company letterhead (MBA applicants, minimum three years).
  • Financial evidence at CAS stage: bank statement showing tuition plus £10,224 to £13,347 (around ₹13.03 to ₹17.02 Lakhs) held for 28 consecutive days.

Before you apply: Northumbria accepts scanned uploads at offer stage, so waiting for physical certified copies is not the bottleneck. The bottleneck is the 28-day bank balance rule for the CAS, so start moving funds into the sponsor account eight weeks before your intended visa filing date.

Northumbria University Acceptance Rate for Indian Students

Northumbria does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Third-party analysis places the rate at an estimated 55% to 65%, drawn from open-intake capacity patterns at Newcastle relative to applicant flows. Business, Computer Science, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence and Healthcare see stronger competition, with those courses running below the university average. See the Northumbria University ranking band for the QS 550 and THE 401 to 500 position context.

What Improves Your Odds at Northumbria

  • Apply early in the cycle. The September 2026 intake starts closing places from May onward as courses fill.
  • Submit a strong SOP that links your Bachelor’s or Class XII subjects to the target programme rather than a generic "UK degree" pitch.
  • Clear the English test on the first attempt at 6.5 (PG) or 6.0 (UG) to convert a conditional offer to unconditional-firm quickly.

Northumbria Indian Cohort Signals

Northumbria hosts 12,400 international students across 140 countries, with India among the top five source markets. The graduate outcomes track shows 93% of graduates in work or further study within 15 months of graduation, which recruiters read as a strong post-study signal.

Insider note: Rejections cluster on unmet English-band floors (5.5 in each band, not just overall) and on Bachelor’s degrees from unrecognised universities. Cross-check your Bachelor’s institution against UK NARIC before applying, especially for state or deemed universities outside the mainstream lists.

UK Student Visa Requirements for Northumbria University Applicants

Indian applicants to Northumbria need the UK Student Route visa (formerly Tier 4), applied for online from India using the CAS issued by Northumbria. The visa fee from 8 April 2026 is £558 (around ₹71,134), and the Immigration Health Surcharge is £776 (around ₹98,924) per year of study for full NHS access. For a one-year Master’s, the visa covers around 16 months, so IHS is charged for two years at £1,552 (around ₹1.98 Lakhs).

Financial evidence is the biggest procedural hurdle. Northumbria’s Newcastle campus sits outside London, so Indian applicants must show tuition (per CAS) plus £1,136 (around ₹1.45 Lakhs) per month for up to nine months of living costs, totalling £10,224 (around ₹13.03 Lakhs). London-campus students show £1,483 (around ₹1.89 Lakhs) per month, totalling £13,347 (around ₹17.02 Lakhs). Funds must be held for 28 consecutive days in the applicant’s account or a parent’s account (with consent letter) before submission. Book biometrics at VFS Global, and expect a decision inside three weeks.

2026 update: UK Home Office revised UKVI rules in April 2026 to a £558 visa fee and £776 annual IHS. Older guides still quote the old £524 fee and £624 IHS. If a checklist you are following shows those, it is stale.

Tips for Northumbria University Admissions

The following tips are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Northumbria and the university’s stated processing timelines.

  • File direct as an international applicant for the 6 August 2026 deadline rather than routing through UCAS after January closes.
  • Book IELTS six weeks before submission so a resit fits inside the cycle without missing the deposit deadline.
  • Cite the Delhi, Mumbai or Pune concession in your covering note if you qualify. Northumbria drops the 2:2 floor from 55% to 52% for graduates of these universities.
  • Choose an Advanced Practice variant if you want a paid placement year worth £24,500 (around ₹31.23 Lakhs) across two years rather than a straight one-year Master’s.
  • Move CAS funds early. The 28-day rule means £13,347 (around ₹17.02 Lakhs) for London or £10,224 (around ₹13.03 Lakhs) for Newcastle must be static for four full weeks pre-application.
  • Ask about the automatic South Asia scholarship of £3,000 (around ₹3.82 Lakhs) for PG applicants, applied as a fee reduction without a separate form.

Northumbria University Admissions Checklist

The following steps cover what Indian applicants typically complete on the runway to a September 2026 start, sequenced against the 6 August 2026 deadline.

  1. 16 weeks out (mid-April 2026): Sit IELTS to leave time for a resit if bands fall below 5.5.
  2. 12 weeks out (mid-May 2026): Draft the 500-word SOP and confirm two referees who can respond inside a week.
  3. 10 weeks out (end-May 2026): Request official Bachelor’s transcripts from your university’s controller of examinations, since Indian universities routinely take four to six weeks.
  4. 8 weeks out (mid-June 2026): Submit the online application through the Northumbria portal. There is no application fee.
  5. 6 weeks out (end-June 2026): Start the 28-day funds-hold clock in the sponsor account.
  6. Once unconditional firm: Pay the £5,500 (around ₹7.01 Lakhs) deposit by 13 August 2026.
  7. By 20 August 2026: Request CAS via the applicant portal and file the UK Student Route visa application within a week.

Northumbria University admissions reward Indian applicants who move on the 6 August 2026 direct international deadline for September 2026, hit a 55% Bachelor’s or Class XII 65% floor, and clear IELTS 6.5 (PG) or 6.0 (UG). No application fee and an automatic £3,000 South Asia PG scholarship keep upfront costs low relative to Russell Group peers.

Scholarship

  • No scholarship is offered for my course. However, for other courses scholarship might be offered. Especially, doctorate level courses within our construction management and built environment are offered scholarship. Therefore, obtaining of distinction class postgraduate master's study at the university might enable availing of scholarship by the student.

Scholarship

Scholarship

I received International Student's scholarship for 2000£. The application was included in the admission process and did not apply for any specific process.
