  • It has a very small campus compared to my undergraduate and no accommodation by the university for post-graduates. While the university provides a lot of support for career development, placements could really help students.

Placement:

No concept of placements over here. Need to look for jobs on your own. Really difficult currently with companies not really hiring international students.

Internship:

I interned at a company (remote work) called Everest Carbon. Stipend - Rs 35000/month. I found the job posting via LinkedIn.

  • One important thing that I would want Imperial to offer to Master students is that 24*7 permit in labs, because I sometimes wanted to work late at nights. However, it requires presence of a senior lab member which is always not possible.

Placement:

Many students choose to move on to PhD or working as research assistants. This course is ideal for students who want to take a doctoral degree in any field. Most of the students are now working or pursuing PhD.

My overall experience was really good and I have learnt a lot of new things in a new country. I would say this was once in a life-time opportunity for me. Just the accomplishment of able to complete a master's degree from such a reputed university (ranked 6th in the world) is a dream for me while also gaining lot of research skills and experience.

  • Dislikes:
  • Imperial College London is in the heart of the London. Living and accommodation costs are vey high here.,
  • This is something that is not in the hands of university team but there is separate student financial team here that supports students in need of any financial assistance.,
  • Also, London cannot be described better without mentioning about its road traffic.

Placement:

UK as of now has good opportunities in terms of Job and research opportunities. Unlike India there isn't a centralized placement portal here. The companies visit Imperial very frequently and they advertise their job and if students are interested they can apply to the company. Imperial has a career service that help students find job of their interest.

Internship:

At this point I haven't done Internship. But fellow students who did internship in companies earned 4000£/month. To get an internship students can apply to the company directly or through Imperial career service.

Placement:

I have not applied for companies as my field is research focused. For research opportunities I have costed different universities in the UK such as UCL, kings college, Oxford and Cambridge. I have also looked at different startups and companies doing research such as the Francis crick institute and Sanger institute. There are numerous research opportunities available with paid hours and these opportunities also give students the chance to public papers with academics and present their work at conferences and symposiums.

Internship:

I have not interned at any company I have primarily worked in universities.

Placement:

The placement process is self-guided. There is no placement drive or on-campus placement culture. Companies visit for talks and to distribute awareness of their roles but we have to apply and reach out directly. Highly network-driven. From JP Morgan to Bain to Start-ups- all companies visit the campus. Applications are made directly online. The on-campus career team supports us through the process and guides us right from CV building to the final interview

Internship:

No, I didn't get an internship.

More than 80% of the students opt for a PhD which is fully funded. After the doctoral degree some of the students go into research labs as junior scientists or they may even opt for a research fellowship to start their own projects in an institution. Some even apply to become professors while others get hired by pharmaceutical companies.

Imperial College London is ranked 8th globally. It is one of the most prestigious colleges and has high end research facilities. The MRes Cancer Biology is the most popular course and very competitive in terms of a research degree. I took up this course cause they offered 2 research projects and they have PhD studentships that are offered from the MRC (fully funded on home level with stipend).

Placement:

Although I have not yet graduated or taken part in any placement opportunities, I am aware that Imperial provides a lot of support which I have heard from mentors and friends in older years. There are frequent job fairs and the careers service is always on hand to provide assistance and guidance with applications and resumes. One thing that stood out to me was that you are able to send a copy of your resume to the careers service and receive personalized feedback as well as arrange appointments to speak with advisors. In addition, there are recurring online sessions to help with LinkedIn profiles, CVs, and internship opportunities.

Internship:

I have not been successful with an internship application thus far however I have submitted several applications online.
