Aakansha Ramesh Review at University Of Edinburgh [ED], Edinburgh | Collegedunia

My experience at Edinburgh

AR

I chose this university because of it's location, job market and job security. Additionally the QR ranking, provisions in terms of qualifications of staff and amenities within the university contributed towards the selection of my university. University life has been pretty good in terms of the different things that I have learnt and my new found independence. Additionally, the academics will be this in terms of the material that was provided, skills that I have obtained through my coursework and assignments. All of which honed me with skills that are very much needed in today’s industry. Additionally, Masters abroad has given me the opportunity to interact with different people. All of us belong to different cultures and I have had many meaningful experiences.

Course Curriculum :

The curriculum is fantastic in my current university. All topics that are up to date are taught. Additionally, the education system here is really good as more emphasis on practical application of the topics is enforced, all of my subjects are supported by tutorials, seminars and lectures. The addition of dissertation has aided me to think analytically.

Exams :

- I gave two exams, GRE and IELTS. GRE was not considered when I applied(most universities don’t usually ask for GRE )IELTS overall: 7.5 listening: 7.5 speaking: 7.5 reading: 8 writing: 7, GRE 310. - Bachelor Engineering Mumbai University Information Technology 9.77 GPA - CBSE 10th: 8.9 percentile, CBSE 12th: 77% - Requirements: Submitted transcript from semester 1 to 8, LOR of 3 teachers that depicts my performance throughout my academic years, SOP that states reason for applying for a specific university, how I am a good fit for the course I was applying for and my strengths, CV, bank statement that covers tuition fees and additional living expenses. - Interview Round: I didn’t had any specific interview rounds or university tests. I was evaluated based on my CV and LOR.

Placement :

For most of the MSC program placement is not provided directly by the university. They have many support services that will help you with the review of your CV, one-on-one mock interview process or even discussion about prospective jobs. Research opportunities are provided via many projects that are industry supported, which means that you will work in collaboration with industries, but the ones that doesn't have any good opportunities to depict your skills in your CV.

Internship :

I did not opt for an internship at a co-op, but I have done. Various certifications are supported by AWS, Google, Microsoft, IBM, et cetera.

Fees :

For Technology and IT based courses it’s typically: £36,500 for an MSc program.

Scholarship :

I didn’t receive any scholarship but there are numerous provisions for scholarship.

Faculty :

There are a lot of qualified professors in my university. Typically, for a given course, there are at least 3 to 4 professors that change in rotation based on their respective expertise area. For my courses, I am pretty satisfied with the professors that I was facilitated with. Even the faculty is quite helpful. In case of any issues be it accommodation or mental/ physical support, student advisers are pretty proactive and helpful. The faculty to student ratio varies from course to course and for different subjects that are opted.

Campus Life :

University provides many provisions for activities within the campus as well as beyond the campus. Also, have many support systems that are due in finding groups or clubs that you are best suited for. Many of them have a membership for which you have to pay but it is reasonably priced. The university also organizes many events, be it extra curricular or academic. This could be seminars, parties, etc. Library is well stocked with any material that you may need to aid you for your courses. Additionally, there are also many study areas through the campus that students use quite frequently. Wi-Fi services are provided within the campus. It is pretty strong and stable. And there are many sports clubs as well, again for which a membership fee is required, there are also provision of multiple gyms.

Hostel :

I was unable to procure university accommodation, but there are many provisions for that. It is typically recommended to book university accommodations beforehand, as soon as you get your unconditional offer letter. I was unable to procure university accommodation, but there are many provisions for that. My accommodation is a private one. I have shared a kitchen and a shared common area as provided. I have a shared bathroom as well. If accommodations are booked beforehand, they should be relatively cheaper. Typically, the price per week for a flat in shared accommodation is between 100 and 210 pounds. Studio flats are more expensive, with around £300–£400 per week.
