Review: Doctoral research at University of Edinburgh

PD
7.7 /10

My department provides me opportunities to engage in cutting-edge projects and collaborate with leading researchers in the field. Also, the university's research centers and institutes cover a wide range of disciplines and offer a platform for me to contribute to innovative discoveries. Overall experience so far has been really great and I'm so grateful for that.

Course Curriculum :

I don't have any course work. Yes, I needed to research training in the first month of the programme.

Exams :

My Scores: TOEFL 111/120 28 Reading 29 Listening 25 speaking 29 Writing minimum score: 90/120 Yes, I needed to submit SOP, 2 LORs and CV. I also had 2 interviews. I had 2 round of interviews. First with the Professor under whom I wanted to do my research, It was all about checking my knowledge in the field. I had to present my work that I did as part of my Masters project. Also, why I wanted to work in this field and some basic interview questions.

Placement :

There are enough research or industrial opportunities after my doctoral degree. Through department collaborations I can easily get a post-doc and also outside of academia there many big data companies offers jobs. median salary is about 3000-4000£/month.

Fees :

24500£/year

Scholarship :

I got funding from Darwin trust of Edinburgh (~18000£/year). There was separate application form for the funding and then there was also a interview.

Faculty :

Faculty to student ratio is good (about 1:20). Faculty and staffs are very supportive as well.

Campus Life :

The university has variety of opportunities for engagement, extracurricular activities, and events. The university's campus is a combination of historic buildings and modern facilities. The infrastructure includes libraries, research centers, laboratories, lecture halls, student study spaces, sports facilities, and student accommodation.

Hostel :

I have rented a personal private flat. I think average rent is about 600£/month.
