Remarks :
The college is a good place for students who are interested in academics. Freedom is given for nurturing entrepreneurial or innovation in students. But effective education and true growth is only possible by individual's interest and motivation.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The curriculum is set by Anna University. The curriculum was not up-to date with the current market technology but was reasonable. However the curriculum has been revised since my then to reflect the current technology.
Internships Opportunities :
The college encourages us to find internships and also help by granting On-Duty if the internship is during course period. But limited companies come for internship recruitment in our college campus. Usually there are just 2-3 companies for internship.
Placement Experience :
The placement cell is really active right from second year when they start training in basic computer programming. Lot of companies come in for recruitment throughout the last year though the most high profile companies take only a few recruits. The placement percentage has usually been around 80-90%.
College Events :
The events celebrated includes a cultural, a sports day and symposiums. The cultural and sports day involve the entire college and are usually held in the month of February and March. Both involve various events conducted conducted over a range of 1-2 weeks which is culminated on the final day with prize distributions and a few events. The symposiums are conducted department wise throughout the year.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
There are two fee structures. One for students who come through Anna University counselling and the other for students coming from direct admission. The fee is substantially higher for direct admission. Besides the tuition fee there are other extra fee included for transportation, placement activities, etc.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
There is scholarship for meritorious students. The scholarship amount varies with the CGPA secured by the student. The CGPA range for which scholarship is provided are 8.5 - 9 (Rs.5000) , 9-9.25 (Rs.10000), 9.25 and above (full tuition fee).
Campus Life :
Inter-college sport events are held throughout the year and participation in them depends on the interest of the individual students. Besides these there is the sports day which is a intra-college event conducted between the various departments. The labs are good and well equipped.
Hostel Facilities :
Since I have been a day scholar I have no direct experience in the hostel, but from what I gathered from my friends the hostel infrastructure is fine. I have heard that the food is better than in other outside accommodation.
Alumni/Alumna :
An alumini meet is held every year in the college separately for each department. The college also arranges talks by successful alumini occasionally. The helpfulness of senior students depends mostly on the individual and their socializing or networking skills.
Exam Structure :
The exam structure is as set by Anna University. Besides the university conducted exam at the end of each semester there will be 2 assessments and a model exam per semester. Each semester usually consists of 5-6 course papers and 1-3 lab courses.
Admission :
I applied for the Anna University Engineering counselling and attended the same in their Guindy campus (the process is changed now and can be done from home). This was my top choice and lucky it was available.
Faculty :
The faculty are friendly and clear doubts when asked. They are meticulous in their preparation of lecture notes. But the lecture style varies with the individual. The HODs are very helpful and encourage the students to participate in various events both technical and non-technical outside the college.
