Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum prescribed and preached at the institute was very carefully designed for students who want to learn and grow their careers in the hospitality sector. Frequent exposure to Visiting-faculty demo classes, regular theory and practical sessions.
Internships Opportunities
I interned with The Leela Ambience Gurugram, where I worked as Industrial trainee. I was working in the Food Production department, where I learned about indian sweets and how to make them. Also during my training period, I was working in the HR department as a Learning and Development Trainee where I was responsible for taking the Training sessions, Grooming Sessions, Employee - Onboarding Sessions and documentation processes along with other general tasks. The stipend provided at the time was 10K per month, but we had accomodation facilities and meal facilities which helped a lot of employees.
Placement Experience
In second year of college, all the stuidents are required to go for Industrial training where many groups/organisations accept applications for Industrial trainees. Many hotel chains like The LEELA, ITC, LALIT, etc,. visit the college for placements along with other organisations from different industries as well. Post pandemic, the placement ratio has sky-rocketed to 70-80%.
Fees and Financial Aid
The year-wise fee-structure was somewhere around 60-70K for the entire year, that included the tuition fee, caution money, registeration fees as well. This was the fee-structure for Indian students whereas for NRI students, the fee structure used to vary from 1.5-2.0 LPA as the course fee. We also had the option for scholarships and many students also used Education loans.
Campus Life
The overall experience with the campus, and social clubs was a delightful one, like People of Pusa, where many individuals, who have a special story to share with all, were interviewed and asked about their journey and experience with the college. The library contained all the informational and other magazines/books/journals, which we were allowed to visit and read in silence without any disturbances. The social groups, sports groups, etc, were a major part of the institute and were actively performing activities along with the curriculum.
Admission
The NCHMCT, organises an exam under the name of NCHM-JEE, where students who wish to apply and pursue their careers into the hospitality sector can appear and give the exam. There are mainly three category of colleges - Government, Semi-Government and Private Institutions. As per the rank accquired by the examinee, the colleges are alloted to the particular student based on the preference of the colleges asked. I preferred IHM Pusa over IHM Mumbai as I was sure about getting into the topmost ranked cullinary institute in our country. Eligibility criterias are that you need to score atleast 50% in Class 12th along with English being a compulsary subject.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio used to vary between 60-70 : 01, where the faculty used to visit the classrooms for the theory lectures. Lecture delivery and faculty-student relationship is decent where students can ask their doubts or queries to the teachers directly without any judgement. Dr. Anshu Singh, our research and food safety faculty, later she also headed the placement committee, is one of the most polite, humble and approachable faculty in IHM Pusa. Other faculties like Mr. Vipul, Mr. Haokip, Mr. Goyal, Dr. Shweta Misra, Ms. Arti Ghai and Mr. Anand Kumar were also very humble and helping and were always available for students.
Night Life
The gym, cafeteria, library and the public area had the operational timings from 08:00AM to 06:00PM. The hostellers were allowed to go out on special permission taken by the guardians and the warden must be informed in prior to avoid any confusion. The entire road/area around the college is very safe and we all used to take a walk around the campus post college timings.
Other Applied Colleges
Institute of Hotel Management Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition - [IHM] | Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] (Hospitality and Hotel Administration)
It was stated as the second best college for Hotel Management at the time and IHM Pusa was, and still is ranked topmost in the country.
