Course Curriculum Overview
JNC was recommended to me by a senior and I'm glad I took her advice, because it is one of the most life changing experiences I had. College life was so fun, programs are held very often, the faculties are good and most importantly, you are given various platforms to showcase your talents and passion. One suggestion for improvement could be to be more inclusive in the choise of the text or syllabus. There is a very less representation of North Easter texts.
Internships Opportunities
During our third semester, the students were made to choose between internship or research for a period of 30days. The students who choose internships engage in mostly, teaching but also they engage in office work, data entry etc. Others also do internship in NGOs and schools linked to the college. Again for this, the HOD gives the contact details of linked colleges or offices for those students who are not able to find a place for themselves. The faculties are always ready to help, you just need to ask for it.
Placement Experience
By the end of the 2nd semester, we are constantly notified about any vacancies in any department. The college placement cell sends us notifications through our class monitors or sometimes throyoutlr HOD. Even after the end of our final semester exam, we are added in a group that is specially meant for job opportunities and placements, where they constantly update and notify us. Out of 32 students in our class, a total of 12 students got placement. As for me, my plan is to do PhD in the said field.
Fees and Financial Aid
Each semester fee varies from student to student, depending upon which state they graduated from. Students like me, from other board, have to pay a sum of ?44000 each semester and around ?2500 as exam fee before each exam. People who passed for Karnataka board, pays around 40000 per semester. The fees can b paid in halves in case of financial problems but valid reasons should be provided to the college authority. As compared to other colleges like christ, zain, etc. jyoti nivas College is much cheaper
Campus Life
The Jnc college day is held every year in the month of July where students from each department gets to showcase their talents through dance, songs and comedy. Big festivals like Onam and Christmas are also celebrated in the campus. As of the English department, there is a literary club called "Litsapp" where the students of the department meet every Thursday to discuss literature, engage with each other and express our literary passion and knowledge. It is a creative club with focus not only on literature but also on personal growth, social interaction and public speaking. In terms of technology used, each class is monitored. There's a projector and a speaker for each department. Students are made to frequently engage with slides and PowerPoint presentations. The faculty also make frequent use of the slides to give more insight to the lessons.
Admission
To be honest, JNC was the only college I applied to when I came to Bangalore. I initially thought of applying for christ university but by the time I approached them, the admission process was already over. I'm glad the courses start a little late at jnc as compared to other colleges. In jnc, the admission process involves two major processes right after you graduate. You need to go for a walk in interview in the campus, however for me, i requested for an online interview as I was not able to be physically present. They accepted my request and an online exam was held specially for me. Roopa ma'am was the one to send me the set of questions and the one who evaluated me. A few days after, I got a mail that I was accepted for the course.
Faculty
The faculty members are well experienced and gives valuable insights to students. There are a total of 4 faculty in the English department (MA) Roopa ma'am is definitely the best teacher you'll ever find. She is very professional and treats every student equally. If you ask about knowledge and execution, preetha ma'am is the one to go for. All the teachers are very well accomplished and experienced. There are a total of 4 main semester exams throughout the course. With 4 other mid semester exams which are comparatively easier and conducted during the mid of each semester. Questions in the exam are set from the things taught in class
Night Life
My favourite hangout place near college is Tera Bites and Corn Dawg. They are my go to places after a long day at college to have snacks with my friends. I also love the fact that our college is just opposite to Tibet mall. I personally love window shopping and this is the best place to do so, if you're a fashion lover you'll love it too. As for nightlife, Koramangala is famous for exactly that. And it is very safe to hang out even late at night as there are many people and the lights are always on.
