Course Curriculum Overview
The Curriculum has almost everything to become a good teacher Semester 1 includes subjects like Philosophy Sociology Psychology and Language development. All these subject laid foundation to our course. Semester 2 was mainly focussed in Teaching Pedagogy for various subject combination like English S.St Physical Science, Biological Science, Mathamatics, Sanskrit and Hindi. Semester 3 was all about 3 months teaching program in real classroom as intern teachers in various schools of the city. Schools were allotted to students by the Department of Education. Semester 4 had topics like Gender and Society and Environment Degradation and Protection So the overall curriculum is designed to make the pupil teacher as an effective teacher in order to serve the society and nation.
Internships Opportunities
The Campus has placed me in ICSE affiliated school namely Koormancal Academy Almora. I had to teach English and Geography to 6,7,8 class. The course of B ed includes intership program as the main thrust of the course. Apart from B ed program I don't think other courses have intership facilities in the Campus.
Fees and Financial Aid
I have done two year B ed program from the SSJ UNIVERSITY Almora Campus. I got selected for the course after clearing entrance exam conducted by the University. The fee of the form of entrance exam was 2200. University provides Government finances seats Semi Goverment Finances seats and Self Funded seats. Candidates are selected from above mentioned seats based on the merit list prepared by the University. University Also gives extra weightage to NCC B and C certificate holder and National and Zonal level certified athletes. The fee per year is around 4000 per semester for my campus since it was government financed seat. I had to pay around 1800 per semester as examination fee and have to 1000 for library charges. It roughly cost me ?25000 toh get a B ed degree from the government seat. There are provisions for SC ST OBC Women and PwD candidates and campus has fixed seats for them. I got to know that students from the Semi Goverment Financed seats had to pay fee around ?25000 per semester but got most of them through scholarship scheme.
Campus Life
There were around 4-5 national level and 1 international seminar during my time and 2 annual festivals organised by the University. University Also organises inter University sports meet in various sports. Department of Education also organised 2 community programs to inculcate social and emotional feelings for the community in the students.
Admission
I chose this college because it is one of the best if not the best campus for B ed course in the state. It has glorious past and it's alumni were placed in the some of the best and government institute in the area. I got a government seat which is way cheaper than the same course provided by other private universities. Selection Process: I had to clear entrace exam and got good marks I got 35 rank of 3500 applicants. Then I competed councelling in campus. University prepared a merit list and got selected for my desired campus and took admission in B Ed course.
Faculty
Head Of the Department was Dr Bheema Manral who was very strict but very experienced member in her field. During my time there were around 200 students and 20 research scholars and around 10 assistant professor 4 associate professor and one professor. Dr D.S. Chamyal is the assistant professor that I didn't like because his way of teaching and explaining things is not very clear but I think it will improve with time considering his age and experience. Curriculum is pretty much relavent to the course. Examination held twice a year having semester system. There were few internal examination and assignment system is mainly used for internal evaluation. The examinations are pretty easy to clear and students with good academic skills can score high in the examination. Almost 95 percent of my class have passed their exams. University uses marking and percentage system for overall evaluation.
Night Life
There was very limited night life in our Campus there is no gym or 24 hour library in the Campus. There are cheap and good hostels provided by the University. University has 2 hostels for the boys and 3 hostel for the girls. Famous hangout places are Kasar Devi, Dhukane Waterfall,Chitai Temple, Sun Temple, Bright End Cafe, Dolidana Sunset Point and jagehswar temple. Locality of campus is free from any crime but has threat of wild animals like Guldars as it situated near Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary.
