Brief overview of SVNIT

Dislikes

  • Hostels are not so good, they are getting old.
  • Infrastructure is not really good but it's okish..

Course Curriculum Overview :

There is a big change in the course curriculum from last 2 years after the launch of New Education policy by government. Course is changed a lot, many new subjects are added in the form of electives, students can choose their subject of interest on their base of cgpa. Recently the projectors are replaced by the smart TVs ????????

Internships Opportunities :

Internship opportunities are good in SVNIT. Companies approach students in their 5th and 6th sem for next summer internship and many of the people get advantage of this. There are lot of industries in Surat near to the Hazira, large companies like L&T, Reliance, ONGC etc come to the campus for hirings.

Placement Experience :

Placements are decent or above average compare to the other colleges. Companies approach the institute and students can apply from 6th sem by they'll get the internship and they may also get PPOs. Hiring starts from the 7th sem and majority of the people get the placement. The highest package this year is around 18 LPA for the mech student and the avg is about 8-8.5 LPA Around 85% of students were placed last year in mechanical who sat for the placements.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The annual tution fees is 1,25,000 and once you get admission in a college you get the fee structure in which increment may occurs if college wants otherwise it remains same for 4 years. If I combine all the fees (including hostel) than it costs around 2,15,000 annually. If you are from SC/ST the tution fees is almost nil. Financial aids are available for students whose family's annual income is less than 5 lakhs, they'll get the 2/3rd aid in tution fees.

Campus Life :

The overall experience is descent or may better than any normal engineering college. SVNIT organises mainly 3 fests, Litfest :- Annual Litrature fest of SVNIT, held in October Mindbend:- Annual Technical fest of SVNIT, held in March Sparsh:- Annual Cultural fest of SVNIT, held in February The faculties and classrooms are good. Classrooms ar now evolved to the smart classrooms from this year. Sports facilities are descent, students from Svnit participates in Inter-NIT competitions. Last year SVNIT was the winner in Inter-NIT cricket tournament.

Hostel Facilities :

The campus is old, so the hostels are not very good except girls hostel and one new boys hostel otherwise all are same. The room is shared in between 2 peoples and rare rooms for different year students with a occupancy of 1 and 3 people. There are no AC rooms in any of the hostel. You'll get the study table, lights, beds, fan and almira in rooms.

Admission :

I've applied in various colleges like vit, srm, IITRAM, Nirma, PDPU etc but none of the college is not better than SVNIT except in terms of Infrastructure. As compared to other colleges, Svnit has better placements, Professors, Campus, Mess food, environment, opportunities etc. So I have rejected all the other colleges for the SVNIT. As it's a NIT, you should score at least 75% or in top 20 percentile of your respective board and should compete in JEE main. You'll get the admission on the basis of your rank. On my time cutoff for mech was around 49K

Faculty :

Faculties are really good in SVNIT. One can search "R.V. Rao" sir and "Manish K. Rathod" sir, they are in the list of the top researchers in the world. Each semester, the are two exams: Mid sems and End sems and the cgpa depends on exams + lab + attendance + internals

Night Life :

As the campus in near to one prime area of surat, the nightlife is good. The food court is just opposite to the campus and may food shops including La Pinoz, Ajays etc just near to campus (at walking distance). SVNIT has it's central canteen whose food is also good but thing is " cheap". You'll get the good food in very low rates like dosa in 30rs and paneer chilly in 40rs. The hostel in timing is 7:30 for the first year which gets extend to 10:30 after Fresher's party called "Kashish". There are two beaches near to campus one Dumas (10 kms) and another is Suvali (25 kms). Surat is safe at night. From second year there is no hostel in time but you have to be in campus before 10:30

Students become eligible for placement in 7th semester don't disclose the specific amount and the company is that offered that amount so I can only give you the idea that in my branch there is maximum placement of 5 lacs and the average package was 4 lacs and the students place were 75 or 76% something my plan for after the degree completion is I studies as I don't think that 5 lakh or 6 lakh is appropriate to sustain in the job
