- The transportation is good. They cover a wide range of cities including Chennai outer. We also have air conditioned buses.
- The placements are good. You get more opportunities in this college. It may not be like iit or ssn but there are a good number of companies every year and we have good placement percentage rates. Many even have multiple offers

- The food is average. You don’t have a lot of varieties to choose from. The level is below par when compared with other colleges.
- The infrastructure can be improved more in terms of buildings. The student intake is increasing rapidly.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course and curriculum is revised from time to time so it's quite good. Teachers encourage students to take seminars from time to time. And also give mini project works. But as it is known, practical knowledge is lagging. Even though we study things theoretically and have laboratory classes, the practical application knowledge is still less. Some teachers try to bridge that gap and expose us to practical lessons. For example, we were taken to the solar set up in our college and the other time, we were taught how to design a battery practically. It would be very likable if every teacher takes steps like these to ensure the quality of education. Apart from the regular courses, value added porgrams are given periodically where we can learn what's not there in the syllabus including simulation tools, software etc.. When a semester starts, we have cat-1 after 35-40 days. And cat-2 is after 1 month. Cat-3 and mode examinations come very close. And immediately after cat-3 ends, semester exams will start. I feel like these exams are crackable as long as you study everything in the syllabus. It takes only 2 days of your time to do so and get good marks.
Internships Opportunities :
Many companies offer internships with a stipend of 10k on an average. Apart from that, many internships are mostly unpaid. You can learn a lot from that. Internship opportunities are communicated by college as well as teachers via mails. We need to apply and get selected for it.
Placement Experience :
The best thing about this college is the placement. Around 300 companies come every year for placements. TCS is a premier partner for our college and hence a bulk number of students get placed yearly. Many popular companies, startup's, core companies visit our college. If you are good enough and deserving, you can definitely get placed. Some companies include accenture, tcs, Wipro, Infosys, Zoho, prodapt, lti mindtree, L&T, Hyundai, emdedUR, econs systems, renault Nissan, Bosch, mitsogo, Mu sigma, Temenos etc.. The complete list is available in our college website. The number of offers depends on each company. TCS recruits 400 students yearly and it even goes up to 600 if students are good. Accenture - around 100 students Start-ups - around 20-25 students The overall total would range between 1500-1600 offers. Most of the roles would be graduate engineer trainee(GET) , software engineer, software developer, data analyst etc. Some students have multiple offers also. The average package is 4-4.5 LPA. The highest offer is 18 LPA Almost 95% of the students get placed. Some students opt for higher education. Students can start attending placements drives from end of 6th semester. The peak time is 7th semester where many companies come.
Fees and Financial Aid :
The total yearly fees for the batch of 2021-2025 is ?1,45,000 without hostel transportation included. For hostel students, an extra of 40-45k is to be paid. There is no extra fees apart from this expect semester exam fees which will be around 2000-3000 as per the subjects. There are various scholarships which can be availed like first graduate scholarship and agaram foundation students are also studying here. When compared to other college fees, I feel like it is okay. NOTE: I joined with the help of tnea counselling and the fees structure which I mentioned is for the same.
Campus Life :
Recharge is the annual fest of REC. It is conducted for 3 days with lots of celebrations and events to participate with amazing cash prizes. Each event is graced by a social influencer/celebrity. There are lots of events like dance, drama, singing, acting, all rounder, arts and crafts etc.. The events happen in the morning and from evening pro shows will take place where celebrities or singers or sports person will be coming and performing. Concerts will also happen. It's very enjoyable. Time frame- March to April Other events like technical symposiums happen regularly in all the departments where other college students can also participate. Apart from that, festivals are not that greatly celebrated. There are lots of student clubs like enactus, atrium, EDC, rotract, Leo, Yuva, Debating union, Google developers club, devs, ethics, youth Red Cross etc.. These club turn out to be the best way to upskill yourself in terms of team management, communication, networking etc.. The app for availing leave for hostel students are found by our college cse students which is very useful for them. There is no need to get letter signed by everyone. One can apply for leave and it will be automatically processed. From time to time, stalls are set up in oru college to raise funds for a social cause. All the books related to the curriculum and higher studies like GRE or GATE is available in the library. Classrooms are spacious and well lit with digital boards to enhance learning experience. There is a basketball court, turf court, and a ground for playing cricket. Apart from that indoor games are also there. Hostel students are provided with gym facilities also.
Admission :
I got this college via TNEA counselling with my 12th marks. One can also join this college via management seats but it includes some donations. For me personally, I wanted to go for CSE branches and in a good college. I prepared a list of colleges to choose from which included: Rajalakshmi Engineering college Chennai institute of technology Sri Venkateshwara college of engineering Sri Siva Subramaniya Nagar St. Joseph college of engineering Panimalar engineering college After researching about the above colleges, I was clear with two things, I want good placements and I want the environment to be friendly and lenient. Some colleges were very strict and hence I eliminated them. I put Rajalakshmi college as my first option as it was very good in placements and there were no strict restrictions on dress codes and mobile phones. I also kept Chennai institute of technology as my second option since it is a new college. I applied for REC only and got it as my first choice itself. To get into REC, computer branches you need a cut off of 195 atleast and for other branches like EEE 180 is enough. Admission process was very smooth. I went to the college along with my provisional allocatment letter, paid the fees and confirmed my admission.
Faculty :
The faculties are majorly friendly and approachable. Everyone encourages students to do research papers and patents and also mentor them. It's upto the student to use it or not. The teaching method is also good. Curriculum and syllabus is revised periodically since it's an autonomous college. There are 3 types of courses: 1. Pure theory 2. Pure laboratory 3. Theory + laboratory The internal examination is classified as CAT-1, CAT-2, CAT-3. The first two exams are subjective and consist of 75 marks each. Whereas the third exam is objective type. The pass marks are 50% of the total marks. The internals play a huge role in your grades. There are 5 units in each subjects and 5 assignments given. You can take up a mini project and compensate it for the assignments with prior permission from the staff. The final examination is of 100 marks. If there is lab, then model examination is conducted. Observation/manual and record should be maintained. The question papers are set up AI and hence students need to be clear conceptually in order to pass the exam. It's not very difficult but moderate. If you study everything in the syllabus, it's a piece of cake. Usually around 5-6 students fail in the subject in my class. But if it's a problematic paper, then the count will go upto 10. The teachers I liked are: Selvaraj sir Siva Kumar sir Jeyashree mam They areas very knowledgable and explain concepts very clearly and are approachable. The teachers I disliked are Uma and Geeta Priya mam. They have their own sets of principles and expects everyone to follow them which is a little unacceptable for students in this era.
Other Applied Colleges
Chennai Institute of Technology - [CIT] | Bachelor of Engineering [BE] (Electronics & Communication Engineering)
It’s a relatively new college compared to REC
