- In the last many years the college has not upgraded the infrastrutre, it still uses the same buildings and hostels built in 80s. The hostel capacity for boys is 200 for 1st year and 100 for 2nd 3rd and 4th combined which is never enough.
- The college has a 10 to 6 culture where nobody shows up before 10 am and everybody leaves at 6 no library or lab access beyond this, the only esception to this is the sports facilty.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I choose CSE becuse that is the hot topic these days, I choose the college because my AIR wasn't great and i was told it was a good college. In my first year we were not taught anything about cs except a 1 credit subject of C language. Then from second year several relevant subjects were added. The course was designed well and taught as well but the sysllabus was rearly completed for the subjects. The circulum is more theory based then practical and project based approach which could be changed. The assignments are not distinct for students they can simply copy from each other , this area also has some room for improvement. We have 2 mid term exams with 20 marks for each subject then a final exam of 70 marks each. Practicals were usually conducted before exams but last time due to elections they were held after. The mid terms are usually placed 1 month apart but after 2nd midterm we don't have a lot of time remanied for the finals.
Internships Opportunities :
In my batch there was no explicit internship provided for the students of CSE. students did on their own. Yet the college required to submit the internship report at the end of 5th and 7th sem. Students have to make two mandatory projects which are submitted in the college one in 3rd year called minor and one in final year called major, project titles and teams are made by students themselves and a mentor is alloted to look after the progress. A final grade is provided after the final assesment at the end of the year.
Placement Experience :
Here you become elligible for placements in your 7th semester. You are allowed to apply for on campus companies and sit in interviews from then onwards, There are multiple companies that that visit which are mentioned on the college website, each one have different requirements ranging from a handful to few dozen. Many times one has to go to bhopal to participate in the poll campus drive and compete with around a 1000 students for 20-30 seats as well. Usually the average package for a technical job role is around 4-5lpa, for sales it goes down to a minimum of 3.5lpa, the highest on campus placement that I have seen is about 10lpa, rest the higher ones are offcampus. I have seen a decent decline in the number of students placed in the last few years yet I would say It is more about lack of skills of the students oppurtunities are there and one has to just get skilled. My plan after the degree is to give GATE exam and go for higher studies.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The fee structure is divided into 2 parts for two semesters which are not symmetrical. In my case the total amount is 69100 which divided into 41600 and 27500 for odd and even semester respectfully. for my juniors it has gone up by 10000, and again by the same amount for their juniors. The hostel fee for me was 20400 per year with mess (calculated monthly comes out to be 1800-2100 per month), but was 10000 for my juniors. There are few refundable charges at the time of admission, then there is 150rs enrollment charge during 1st semester, also there is an annual charge for using the student services on the college website. The exam fee per semester is 2000 for 5 subjects and if are giving some exam again because you failed in first attempt then it is 500 per subject. The schlorships are widely available for students with obc, sc/st category provided by the government. then there is mmvy for general category. also there are few other options along the way.
Campus Life :
The usual annual events are Samrat Utsav and technovision which are the annual fest and technical event of the college , happens to take place side by side. these include various cultural and technical events like dance , singing, debating, speeches , robo race ,etc, taking place in March. Also there is an annual cricket tournament for state level collge teams in feburary, also various other sport events are held for students to participate in the college team for inter college games. The library is accessible for 10am to 6pm for all students they are get the sysllabus books and also go sit and study in silence there. There is a limit on how many books one can borrow at a time and also a certain time period to return, however there is also a facility of online library providing with all sorts of books , journals and scientific papers. There are multiple clubs active in college like for dance , music, street drama, ncc, nss, photography, E-cell, etc.
Hostel Facilities :
We have 3 hostels for boys and 3 for girls out of which, 2 named RNT,SBS are for 1st year boys and JLN for senior boys in rest of the years, each of these have a capacity of 100 students, except RNT(triple sharing) both have double sharing rooms while all of them have facilities of wifi, mess, hot water , RO,etc. These mess have a meal plan made by student representatives, but here I wish to note that food in the mess was one of the major reasons i left hostel after 1st year, also alot of students prefer living outside the campus making the senior hostel almost half empty at all times. for girls there is a first year hostel names GR, then there is a senior girls hostel named KC, also there a hostel named poly for senior girls. In my knowledege the accomodation for girls is far better than boys and hostel seats for girls are more occupied then boys, also the meal quality happens to be better. For hostel registration you have to apply at the admission time and pay the annual fee at once
Admission :
The admission process includes the JEE score which is considered in MPDTE councelling. which happens in phases. you fill out choices, get your appointment letter based on your merit then you come to college with all the necessary documents in the given time period. At the admission time you need to submit the 1st sem fee in its enterity, along with few refundable charges all it takes is a few hours for any student. The whole process it quite standard and I don't seem to recall any changes I would make to the process apart from college providing more comprehensive knowledge about themselves.
Faculty :
In the institute if one looks at classroom to lab ratio then number of labs would be more but that doesn't mean that a lot is going in there. One single class contains upto 75 students. My CSE department also including the IT department has about 20-25 professors but the number of students are around 400. The Older and experienced faculty is really good they know what they are doing and have a good grasp on subject but the new recruits are not very good which are replacements for the old ones who lefts for different reasons. If given the choice most of the students wont fo in their lectures if not for attendence and internal marking. Teachers are easily approachable and supporting, you go to with a problem and mostly they would be helpful.
