A Transformative Experience: My Insightful Review of Chinmaya College Tripunithura

Dislikes

  • Campus is very small. There is no college vibes in there. Only good for academics.
  • Teachers are changed in between semesters, some are not even good at their subjects.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I am interested and good at accountancy as well as business studies subjects, so this thought took me to this course i.e, Bcom finance and taxation as we know this degree gives you a depth knowledge on these 2 subjects. By taking this course, it prepares you to deal with real life accounting financing and management related jobs plus gives you more practical knowledge (help of various live examples. For this they gave revisions, lab sessions, internships, practical examples, seminars of specialists etc.

Internships Opportunities :

In our college internships are taken by students outside college. For our course (bcom ft), we were suggested to take internships on accounts and finance based companies or any professional sectors. We took our internship during second year (4th sem) of our college, for one month. So I took a CA firm for internship for 15 days. It was a great experience

Placement Experience :

In most of the colleges (including ours), students are eligible for placements when they are in final years. For bcom students in our college we get placement training in 6th semester and placement drives are conducted before completion of the course. In our college, companies like EY, Deloitte, Sutherland are main placement companies. They give us minimum ?15000 to ?25000 as basic salary package for freshers. Highest salary package is ?30000 given by them to freshers.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

For bcom finance and taxation (which I took) based on 2021-24 fees it was ?120000 for 6 semesters which includes tuition fees plus it fees. Scholarships are provided for high rank achievers, which will be minimum of 5000. Also there are competitions conducted where rewards are prize money. Then there are deductions in fees for ex chinmaya school students. Then they collect additional fees for University exams that will be minimum of 600 for each subject, also if student has supply for earlier written exam, they have to pay that fees too before rewriting that exam. I haven't taken any campus employments, there are training sessions for campus placements also placement drives are conducted for final year students and more than 80% students got placed for jobs.

Campus Life :

Our college conducts various programmes related to festivities. Here main festivities celebrated are Onam, Christmas, Navaratri etc. Then there are other special/ grand events like Arts day, College day & Sports day (held between January and February). Library is available in our campus where both students and teachers refers based on their needed topics. From undergraduate to postgraduate level, science arts commerce stream books are available in our library. There is also newspapers, magazines and other articles are available. Students can take books for their university exams for needed subjects but should be returned after exams. Sports like badminton, basketball, cricket, football, fencing (main) are practised here. Also chess carroms competitions are conducted. Dance Music Yoga programs are also conducted. Social services and clubs in our college includes NSS unit, Rotaract clubs, donation campaigns. These all have great impact on students like social servicing, coordination.

Admission :

For this course i.e, Bcom finance and taxation, minimum eligibility criteria is 12th (any stream). Application related details are available on Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam original site, they will publish this after main exams of 12th students. Admissions are based on allotments by colleges where we have to apply for allotments to college through site. Fees and other payments related to admission of course is handled by our college (after getting admission after allotment) I don't have much idea on Reservation category since I got admission under general category. Overall time for application and getting admission is minimum 2 weeks and classes starts after another 2 weeks (after getting admission)

Faculty :

Faculty members are very much supportive. They are available after classes for clearing doubts. Majority teachers are good at their subject mains. Also faculty members are friendly. They give us live examples (daily situations as examples). Give us notes from simple and informative format & covers the entire portions before exams, insights on exams. They give us proper revision. Still there are improvements like- management change teachers in between semesters (not for main subjects) which would affect the flow of understanding that subject. There are some permanent faculties who aren't good at their subject. Also teachers give internal marks based on students overall performance not based on their assessments (partiality at it's peak). Teachers contribute only 30-40% contributions or support in non curricular activities. One thing that isn't specified in the first page is, there is no intercollegiate fests conducted here as our campus can't hold that many students like other college.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is provided by MG University Kottayam , which is easy to learn and score marks , but not that good to help in acquiring skills. The exam times and result dates are too long as it follows the MG University Calendar.
