- The discipline of this college is really breathtaking. They urge the students to attend classes in a disciplined manner
- The professors are very helpful and resourceful and do not hesitate in helping their students in time of the student's need
Dislikes
- They don't encourage the students enough in terms of sports and other activities.
- The college is very strict with attendance. If you miss out college for one or two days, your attendance goes down a lot.
Course Curriculum Overview :
Scottish Church College has got one of the best faculty for English department. Their professors are highly qualified for their job, each with a fame of their own and since I wanted to continue my studies in English, i chose this college. The curriculum the college follows is the one set by the Calcutta University and it's a vast syllabus to be followed by the students and faculty members. The syllabus has got many important works which helps a student if they are willing to do a masters of art degree in English. But there's an area which needs to be improved which is the time given to complete the syllabus. The exams are quite difficult and lengthy based on time, 3 hrs is given to write a paper of 65 marks, which is quite sufficient on pen and paper but in the exam hall, it would feel like if only there was a little bit more time because the answers you write have to be lengthy to fit the 15 marks each question quota.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The tuition fees doesn't increase all of a sudden. It depends on what year you are studying right now. At the time of admission they would take approx 14k along the semester 1 fees and then only the semester fees are taken from the students which is around 4 to 5k per semester. So, the overall cost of the 3 yr education concludes at around 30 to 40k . The college provides scholarship and financial aids from their side and it's really good.
Campus Life :
There's no such annual festival in our college but there are few technical festivals that takes place over the year at different times. The books are always available in library for all the departments existing in our College. The classrooms are filled with white boards along with blackboard and there's a projector in every classroom for slideshow. The college needs to hosts more sports events apart from the annual sports and extracurricular activities always takes place in our college. There are various clubs in our college such as the painting club, photography club, debate club, drama club, sports club, literature club, music club, dance club and so on. A student can benefit from all of them and they get to participate in events held in other colleges as well.
Hostel Facilities :
There are 3 hostels for the students. 2 for boys and 1 for girls. The boys have their own single room in both the hostels, where as the girls have to be in sharing rooms. Meal is provided 2 times a day in boys hostel and 4 times in girls hostel. The registration process is usually based on the distance of student's home from the college and on that basis the hostels are given to them. They are affordable as well as they take fees every 5 months on 2 installments.
Admission :
You are eligible for the course if you have a good if not the best percentile of marks in your 12th board exams. The application form is upload on the college's website itself and the fees is to be paid online and get yourself a photocopy of the same. The application dates fall exactly after the end of 12th exams and ends before the beginning of a new session.
Faculty :
The faculty members are really good and there's sufficient number of faculty members to help the students. Each department has atleast four main professors to teach them. Their approach to teaching and mentorship is just like how a college professor should be not a bit less.
