I took WBJEE. This is the entrance test for Engineering and medical colleges in West Bengal. I secured a rank of 206 in the entrance exam and chose Electrical Engineering.
Course Curriculum Overview :
Elecrical Engineering Course in JU is pretty extensive. It has a huge curriculum and well funded Labs. There are control system labs, machine labs, illumination labs, High Voltage Labs. All these labs are state of the art and equipped with the latest technology.
Internships Opportunities :
I have to arrange my own internship at the end of 2nd and 3rd year. There was only one company that offered to take interns and had an interview process to select the best candidates.
Placement Experience :
I had a department strength of 110 and a batch strength of around 800. All the students in B.E.E were placed. Some received multiple offers. The average salary was 4 lacs per annum at the time.
College Events :
We had a technical fest and a cultural fest every year. The technical fest was very small in scale. It had very few sponsors and few colleges in Kolkata used to partcipate. The Cultural Fest was rather big in comparison. It used to span for 7 days. Many local and national bands/artisits performed during this Fest.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
JU is one of the most cheap colleges in India if not the cheapest. The fees I used to pay per semester was something like Rs 250/-.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
I dont recall any scholarship. The fees is so little that a scholarship was never required.
Campus Life :
Campus life used to be filed with sports activities, various clubs such aas debate clubs, chess clubs, trekking club and so forth. The gender ratio of the engineering stream was around 10:1. 1 female for every male. Various robotics and management workshops were conducted from time to time.
Hostel Facilities :
The number of seats in the hostel are very limited. Priority is given on the basis of distance of home from Kolkata, annual household income and quota. The amount to be paid per month used to be around Rs 800/- and this included mess food.
Alumni/Alumna :
JU alumni is very strong. We have a lot of seniors at high positions in various industries. Some of them used to visit campus for a session or two.
Exam Structure :
We had 2 semesters per year. Each semester had 2 class tests per subject and a end semester exam. The schedule was not too hectic though.
