Remarks :
Students' life in this college is easier since the attendance was not as strict compared to other colleges. But the faculty and seriousness among the pupils about technology, engineering, and scopes as a whole could have been pushed a little higher than it used to be.
Entrance Preview :
I got this college in the first round of applications. Since I am from an open category I didn't want to risk waiting for the 2nd and 3rd lists. When I got to know I have often Atharva, I called up a couple of friends who were already studying there. I asked them about the faculty and placement situations and got to know that all is pretty decent. Also the college was 4.5 kms from my house. So there was no train traveling hassle.
Course Curriculum Overview :
For Bachelor of Engineering the course curriculum is the same throughout Mumbai University affiliated colleges. Atharva is not a deemed or autonomous University. It's affiliated to the University of Mumbai. Hence whatever information needed about the curriculum can be accessed on the University Website. Incase of deemed and autonomous colleges you can use the respective college websites for the insights.
Internships Opportunities :
For internship related queries there is a tnp cell. Again this department was accessible and approachable.
Placement Experience :
Thankfully I had a pretty experience with the placements. During the first semester of the fourth year we had 4 companies (Infosys, LnT, IGATE, TechM) Later in the last semester too there were many companies. The TnP department gave us a gist about the process, the preparations, requirements and criterias.
College Events :
All kinds of events were celebrated in Atharva. The cultural festival 'Rhythm', the technical festival 'Techithon'. Apart from that there are IEEE, CSI and Ember E-cell chapters for the technical and entrepreneurial seminars and events. Many sports teams including basketball, football, volleyball, cricket, baseball etc play in intercollegiate and inter University sports meets every year, the college also has their own Ganpati celebration where in the Students from the fourth year of engineering bring the Ganpati for a period of 5-7 days. The college has it's own auditorium where in drama, music, dance and fashion events are encouraged.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
Feasible compared to other colleges in town. The fees are quite reasonable for the kind of infrastructure provided. There must be a hike since I left but considering the lab facilities and overall environment Atharva has a competitive and affordable fee structure.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
I am not aware since I did not avail of this facility. But I have been associated with a few people who availed the fee waiver and scholarship facility based on certain criteria. The process could be tedious but it can be availed. Further details need to be looked upon in this regard.
Hostel Facilities :
The college doesn't have it's own attached hostel. The canteen has good food. Ranging from snacks to thalis, to Chinese and south Indian food. There are 2 canteens spread across the campus. The rates are average. The Chinese and dal khichadi is pretty amazing
Alumni/Alumna :
Seniors are helpful, friendly and approachable from the 1st day of college. The social networking on the campus is on the high side because of the many events and fests in the college.
Exam Structure :
It is the same as prescribed by the University of Mumbai. Before the semester exams, there are mid-term exams, submissions of the practical files and a little internal vivas before the actual practicals and external viva for all the subjects. There are projects in the third and fourth year.
Admission :
I got into Atharva through the then central admission process. I am not aware of the changes in the system now, if any. But it was quite easy and guided. The government website was simple and straightforward to understand and go about with the process without much confusion
Faculty :
The faculty is easy to access. They are cooperative and friendly. If you're interested in learning they are interested in teaching. The 4 years when I was in college we had a lot of fests happening in college. Due to which the attendance would hamper but the faculty was well aware of these things and very seldom held against the students. They were available when needed.
