Various Aspects of SICSR for BCA

Dislikes

  • There was nothing that I didn't like as such.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The BCA curriculum included foundation courses like Introduction to Computer Science, programming languages, mathematics basics, and, basic software engineering. The program also had a variety of elective courses in specialized areas such as Machine Learning, Cyber Security, Cloud Computing, Networking, etc which allows you to choose from an area of your interest. It also offers hands-on learning experiences through group projects, case studies, and an industrial internship by which you can apply theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios. The evaluation is divided into internal and external. The internal evaluation includes assignments, class tests, group projects, vivas, practicals, etc. They were conducted twice or thrice in a month. The internal evaluation was usually easy as compared to external evaluation. The main theoretical exam for the subjects was conducted by external evaluation. This evaluation was held at the end of each semester. These exams were moderately difficult.

Placement Experience :

Since we have an industrial internship in the sixth semester, the students become eligible for campus placements in the fifth semester which is around October to November. Many MNCs such as Deloitte, HPE, Amdocs, DE-Shaw, etc came to our campus for placements. Many startup companies with good packages also came for campus placements. Almost every student who took part in the college placement process got an offer. The highest package offered was 21.5 LPA and the average package was 3.5 LPA.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Since my admission was at the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, the university decided to bifurcate the fee structure into three installments annually. The complete cost of the course was 550000 including the institute deposit of Rs 10000. The university mainly offers scholarships based on merit. It also offers special scholarships to eligible students based on various criteria such as financial need, extracurricular activities, or girl student scholarships. Some special scholarships are offered to international students as well. I did my internship as a part of a course curriculum in which I received 5000 a month as a stipend.

Campus Life :

Many cultural fests were hosted by various colleges of SIU. In these fests, almost every college of SIU would participate. Some of these were Sympulse (14th May 2021), Cyber Jaagroota Diwas (1st March 2023), Traditional Day (22 April 2022), Hindi Basha Diwas (14 Sept 2020), etc. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic students were not able to access the library database physically. Hence, the college provided an E-Databases facility to all students. A library portal link along with login credentials was provided to every student. Various business E-Magazines were also provided. Almost every classroom had a projector installed in it. Many fitness-promoting initiatives were also held at SICSR. For Example, A fitness for freedom run competition was organized on Independence Day in which 15 students from every campus represented their campus at SIU.

Admission :

First, you need to apply for the SET exam which SIU conducts. It was a 40-minute aptitude exam and 20 minute WAT exam. The exam was overall easy to moderate. You'll be asked to book a convenient slot for your exam. The overall process for taking the SET exam was very smooth. After taking the SET exam, you'll be eligible for the PI round. You can also book the slot for your PI as per your convenience. Very basic questions were asked of me to test my knowledge of computers. Merit lists are declared after a month. The merit lists are based on the following: SET score: Scaled down to 20 PI: Out of 50 WAT: Out of 20 10th Standard marks: Out of 10 (Since it was pandemic time, in my case, the WAT was conducted along with the SET exam). If you clear all the rounds you'll get the admission offer letter. If you lack in any one of the rounds you'll get waitlisted. And you'll have to wait again for one month for their decision regarding your admission.

Interview Experience :

The UG admission mainly consists of two rounds i.e. SET exam and the PI round. The SET exam was a computer-based test. The duration of the exam was 60 minutes. It was mainly divided into two sections: aptitude test and WAT test. The aptitude test comprises MCQs covering subjects such as Analytical and Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Ability, English Language, and General Awareness. There was no negative marking. WAT involved writing an essay on a given topic within 20 minutes. After this, a personal interview was conducted. Very basic questions were asked at the start of the interview like Introducing yourself, family background, strengths and weaknesses, etc. They also ask Why SICR or Why this course? After that, they ask about current affairs especially related to your native place. And other general knowledge questions like railway or finance minister. Some basic computer knowledge questions were also asked. Other criteria for admission include your 10th and 12th standard marks.
