Remarks :
If you are able to get admission in a Tier 1 college like Sastra, NIT or SSN this college is not the place for you. Only if you miss the Tier 1 colleges, MIET might turn out to be a better option.
Entrance Preview :
In Tamil Nadu, there isn't an entrance exam for engineering, all you need to do is get good marks in your 12th standard. Fill the Anna University counseling forms and based on your cut off percentage you will be called to sit in the counseling and select your college preference. I was called for the counseling much later since my marks were around 75% percentage(PCM - Physics, Chem, Math)
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course curriculum is based on the Anna University norms. The college gives preference to academics and extracurricular activities are based on your interests and your respective departments. The college is known for it's reputed Mechanical Department and is considered to be one of the best colleges in Tamil Nadu to pursue Mechanical Engineering.
Internships Opportunities :
No, the college doesn't provide internship and neither does it support if you want to go for one. All you can do is take up virtual internships or internships during your semester holidays. Attendance is given utmost importance here.
Placement Experience :
The Placements are average, the mechanical department has good placement support whereas the computer science department has the least. The average package here is around 3.5 L per annum. The job opportunities are mostly from off-campus interviews. If you are one of the students with good GPA you're called for off-campus recruitment and other than that there's not much to talk about.
College Events :
The events celebrated in the college are as follows, 1. Sports Day 2. Annual Day 3. Iftar 4. Science Day 5. Engineer's Day 6. Technical Conferences 7. Technical & Non-Tech Department wise symposiums 8. Robotics Workshops 8. Guest Lectures 9. Seminars by eminent faculties from Anna University
Fee Structure And Facilities :
It's one of the most affordable colleges in Tamil Nadu. The fee I paid for four years included 8 Semesters Tution Fee - 2.14 L Hostel Fee - 13,000 per year Food - 2500 -5000 per month Exam Fee - 250 per paper Other than these you might have to pay for the Industrial visits and tour as per the itinerary and the plan. The college does encourage you to go for industrial visits but it's mostly misused by students to go on tours.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
There are scholarships provided by the Govt of Tamil Nadu like 1. First Graduate Scholarship 2. Agriculture Scholarship 3. Scholarships for Backward and scheduled castes The loans can be easily availed from any private or public bank in India.
Campus Life :
The campus life is good. You are free to use library and computer labs till 9 pm. Hostelers enjoy this perk. The library has a no phone policy. The library has more 10,000 books both tech and non-tech. The gender ratio is healthy , I would say it's 60% male and 40% female. Extra curricular are limited to playing cricket, volley ball and football in the campus grounds. On Sundays, you are allowed to get carrom boards, chess boards and sport equipment. There are no clubs. But occasionally the student body organises robotics and IT related paid workshops.
Hostel Facilities :
The Hostel facilities are good. The hostel rooms are spacious and have four beds. The washrooms are common. There are no attached washrooms in any of the rooms. No one gets a special treatment. All rooms are of same size including the ones allocated to warden and faculty members. The mess food is prepared by inhouse cook. The food is much better than the average hostel food. There are options for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Non-veg is served four days in a week. For eggs, you need to buy tokens and can get it everyday.
Alumni/Alumna :
Almuni network is helpful. Most seniors are placed and they are helpful if you are able to reach them. The college has recently initiated a yearly Alumni meet.
Exam Structure :
The exam structures are common across the engineering colleges under Anna university. The engineering exams decide your gpa and indirectly your chances of getting a good job. There are two semester in a year like most engineering colleges across India. The labs are hectic because of the records you need to complete and the exams are equally long and tedious. If you have backlogs it may become even difficult because sometimes you may have two exams on the same day.
Admission :
In Tamil Nadu, there isn't an entrance exam for engineering, all you need to do is get good marks in your 12th standard. Fill the Anna University counselling forms and based on your cut off percentage you will be called to sit in the counselling and select your college preference.
Faculty :
The faculty of the college is average. Once in a while you do come across lecturers who have don't have knowledge about their subjects and have become lecturers because they couldn't find anything else to do. Though, it mostly varies department to department. The Mechanical & Civil departments have better faculty than the other departments.
