Course Curriculum Overview :

This particular course is offered only in select colleges in India and gives knowledge about both engineering and management. Industrial engineering is essential for the optimization of resources like money, material, men, etc. It also involves the elimination of wastage and improving the value. The course covers a plethora of subjects that have practical applications in the industry. These include facility design, work system design, operations research, production and operations management, design of experiments, engineering quality control, and more. The student-faculty ratio is around 1 faculty for 40 students on average but varies depending on the number of student admissions each year. The faculty includes professors, associate professors, assistant professors, and teaching fellows. They teach the concepts primarily using PowerPoint presentations. The term exams are conducted according to a timetable and they required considerable effort to pass.

Internships Opportunities :

Various offers for Internships are circulated from the CUIC (Centre for University-Industry Collaboration). Students can apply for those offers. They can apply as well as through their contacts. The internships are usually applied for before the final year. I applied for an online digital marketing internship out of my interest. That was an interesting learning experience.

Placement Experience :

Students usually sit for placements in the final year of college. Various companies come from various sectors. In my department companies like Caterpillar, Ashok Leyland, MRF, Kinaxis, L1 Supply Networks, Latentview, TCS, CTS, etc. came. The highest package was around 10 lakhs per annum offered by Caterpillar. The average package would be around 6 LPA. All the students who opted in for placements got placed. Several students opted for higher studies and government exams. I have opted for civil services preparation.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fees are nominal considering the fact it is subsidised by the state government. There are scholarships for deserving students and those from marginalized communities. The hostel fees are also not too expensive. I did not avail of any scholarship.

Campus Life :

Various events and symposiums are organized in the college. Kurukshetra is the annual technical symposium conducted in the college and Techofes is the cultural symposium. There are also intra-college symposiums like Agni. Various clubs also organize their symposiums. Each department organizes an annual symposium both within and outside the department. The central library at anna university is huge and even has a digital reading hall with internet-enabled computers. There are projectors in the classroom. The sports board manages the sports events and there is a huge ground within the college with cricket nets, basketball court, etc. There is a swimming pool as well. Clubs related to entrepreneurship, computers, technology, journalism, service, etc. are available on the campus.

Admission :

The eligibility condition is a minimum cut-off in physics, chemistry, and mathematics in class 12 board exams. The candidate should have scored a minimum of 50 percent in those subjects if he belongs to the general category. The minimum percentage is 40 percent for the reserved categories. The cut-off marks for the previous years can be seen from the following link: cutoff.tneaonline.org. The application form can be found online on the official TNEA(Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission) website (tneaonline.org/home). The servers of the admission website lag when there is more than usual internet traffic. That infrastructure can be improved and worked upon. This would ensure a smoother admission process for the applicants. The college code for the College of Engineering Guindy is 0001. The application process includes counseling and document verification.

Other Applied Colleges
