School of Distance Education, University of Kerala

Dislikes

  • The menu at the canteen would have been better.
  • Missed a regular course campus life as there was only contact classes.

Course Curriculum Overview :

As the course is distance education, we could study while working. The exact student-faculty ratio is not known although in my class we were 45. Excellent faculties well experienced most of them with doctorates in their field. We get weekly 2 classes, as the course is distance mode and the faculties are available to clear our doubts. Exams were conducted regularly for each semester as per the course timetable. Exams were easy to pass and the grades will depend on our efforts.

Internships Opportunities :

No internships were offered and hence no stipend. There were regular assignments to be submitted so as to meet course requirements. Internal assessments are based on these assignments and the works given.

Placement Experience :

Students are eligible to attend the campus placements in their last semester, in my case 4th semester. Job fairs are conducted and we get opportunities. Packages differ based on the companies. Almost 85% of students get placed in various firms.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

As it's a government university the fees are nominal and affordable. The cost to study depends on our travel and note preparation method. Fees are mentioned on the website during the admission process. We can work while studying. During my last semester, I got placed. In terms of financial assistance, there is a waiver in fees for different categories of students. No jobs were offered on campus with a stipend.

Campus Life :

As it's a distance education course we will not get an annual fest but you can participate in all fests and events conducted by the University representing the school of distance education. Excellent library facility is available on the campus. All basic amenities are provided in the classrooms. Sports and extracurricular activities are similar as mentioned above.

Admission :

Preferably a B. Com degree holder Application forms and dates are available on the official website of the University of Kerala. www.keralauniversity.ac.in Reservations are available for all eligible categories provided if required documents are submitted like non-creamy layer certificate, caste, income certificate etc. Hard copies of the application need to be submitted directly at the office, if it was made online it would have been better.

The syllabus focus on almost all subjects related to commerce. But in this course only theoretical aspects are studied for some subjects. Some subjects has no scope in this era. But still it is part of curriculum. So it is necessary to remove such aspects
