Remarks :

PANJAb University will give you a lifetime experience and it will act a tag in your whole carrier.

Entrance Preview :

I prepared for PMET but didn't do well so, I turned to PU (the only good University here in Punjab) and gave it's entrance. As I had medical background the subject microbiology attracted me so I chose it.

Course Curriculum Overview :

My department was Microbiology, and course structure is vast and covers all the needed topics. But as I had a hons school course it didn't seem to be like that coz I had a lot of subsidiary subjects. I wasn't good at any of them so it really damaged my score. Now they have implied the credit system which I think would be a boon for next generations.

Internships Opportunities :

PU as a whole provides internship in many of it's courses but in our department it wasn't there. For other departments I have heard of stipend upto 20000-30000 also.

Placement Experience :

Our department does not offer any placement so I won't be able to tell anything. There's a lot of discussion going on between our department students regarding placement cell but no one raises the issue to the upper aithority and this thing really needs to be changed.

College Events :

PU is popular for it's huge fests among the students. Jhankar is one of the most successful festival that we have every year. Many other events on different occasions are also conducted by all the departments for e.g quiz competitions, art, theatre, academic awards etc. Participation is also huge leading to a healthy competition and feeling of fight.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

Fee structure varies for different departments at PU. For us it was very low and feasible it was around 6000 a year. But for some departments it was 90000 also. It all depends upon what funding authorities are there. Many strikes happens in our University due to the same thing

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Student who score good and are topper at their degree gets the scholarship. I don't know about the loan facility.

Campus Life :

Well don't know the figures but I guess it's 1:1. There are elections every year, the most exciting part about PU. I never experienced any kind of inequality but everything there is not the same for both the sides. For example girls are bound to get inside the hostel before 12 pm in any case otherwise they will be fined but this rule is not for the boys. They can come and go out at any time. This thing restricts the girl section in many ways eg. They can't go to library at night. Coming to economic status... It is not even stable for India so how it would be for PU.

Hostel Facilities :

Hostels at PU are again of different standards due to a very reasonable point- Time. Some are very old and some are still getting build so infrastructure varies. Everybody shares room with one person. Seats are alloted according to the rank. If you does not get the seat there are a huge amount of pgs out there with very reasonable rent fairs (3000-8000).

Alumni/Alumna :

Yes. They have helped us a lot from class notes to life experiences, they have shared so much with us.

Exam Structure :

Exams, a phenomena occuring every six months. But no, it wasn't hectic at all. We always got appropriate amount of days for preperartion. Yeah but on the other days the period of 9-5 left us tired. We were not able to participate in any other activities.

Admission :

PU holds its own entrance called OCET (notifications releases in may I guess). I was able to qualify it. But my rank was a little low so I waited for councellings. Finally I got admission here in the fourth councelling. There they asked me for my qualifications and related certificates. Everything there is in an organized manner, you may get confused but they will help you with the problem

Faculty :

We got the most experienced teachers in our department all of them were either PhDs or postdocs. Our proffesers tried everything to make us learn the subject in an interesting way though some of them were a little tideous. But overall, faculty is very good, apart from teaching us they are doing great in the field of research.

Placement Experience:

Students become eligible for sitting in campus placements from the third semester. There was a strict attendance policy which were to be followed by every student if they wanted to sit for placements. We received emails from the placement coordinators regarding all the opportunities coming our way and the details of the different roles offered by the companies. In my class, almost all the students were eligible to sit for the placements, and 70-80% of them got placed as well. Most of them are still working with those companies. The main demographic location from which the companies came were Chandigarh, Bangalore, Gurugram, Mohali.
