Jaya Tripathi's Review On Atal Bihari Vajpayee Indian Institute Of Information Technology And Management - [ABVIIITM], Gwalior

Remarks :

The college management is good. The Director is a very kind and humble person who is always ready to cater to the needs of students at any time of the hour. The managing persons are always ready to listen to the problems of students. The application process though is slow but brings justified results. The college that really cares about the student ,their development and everything that would help them succeed in life

Entrance Preview :

I qualified Gate -2015 to get admission in the M.tech program in this college. I secured a rank of 2147 and a Gate score of 617. I chose VLSI stream as it is the most demanding course in the industry today.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Well, the M.tech program is basically research oriented. The faculty guides you for research and expect a good quality research work from the students. They also guide the students to put in their efforts in their thesis work and to come up with new things or findings that could help the students publish a paper. Being an M.tech student in VLSI, I have come across teachers that are quite helping, best labs implementing the recent advancements in technology, best system tools and software to work upon and develop one;s skills to be ready to face the industrial challenges.

Internships Opportunities :

For M.tech students, an internship is provided to students under the willing faculty. Their supervisor should be ready to support them. In this case, I have seen Dr. Anurag Srivastava quite supportive, he is really keen to provide his students with much needed industrial exposure.

College Events :

There are cultural as well technical events. This Institute is an active participant of SPIC MACAY, an endeavor of Government of Madhya Pradesh for promoting classical performance art forms like music, dance, and drama. Cultural groups and celebrity performers from across India are invited tto perform in SPIC MACAY. Music, Arts and Dramatics club of this institute also organize events of smaller scale throughout the year for inspiring talents of this institute. Aurora is a cultural festival held over a period of three days in the month of February/ March. Aurora should not be looked upon just as a cultural event but an attempt to promote friendship, teamwork, and alliances. It is an opportunity to exhibit your talents to members of your community and visitors. Participants are invited from academic institutes across India and even abroad to join in this cultural extravaganza. This three day event comprises: Parivesh (a fashion show showcasing ethnic Indian dresses); personality contest; Kavi Sammelan; Antakshari, singing competition, dance competitions and similar such events. Aurora is a regular event in the calendar of ABV-IIITM and is being held without interruption since its inception in 2001. Every year an International dance fest is organized with dancers from Russia, France, Sri Lanka etc. to add colours to the entire night fest.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The campus is fully residential so students have to take the hostel facility. The fees comprise of inseparable hostel and mess fees as well. The fee structure is feasible. Campus Life :

The institute was accorded the status of deemed university in the year 2001. The institute campus is spread over 160 acres (0.65 km2) amidst picturesque landscape in the foothills of the Gwalior Fort. The campus is self-contained and equipped with all the state of the art facilities necessary for the all-round development of the students’ personalities. The photocopy section, medical dispensary, Post office and a nationalized commercial bank within the Institute premise is a great advantage to its students, research scholars, faculty, staff members, and even visitors. This institute also provides bus service from campus gate to main centres of Gwalior city free of cost. To encourage sporting activities there is a full-fledged complex, and also games facilities in each of the students’ hostels. Our institute has an elaborate sports complex with:  One swimming pool  One gymnasium  One lawn tennis court  One basketball court  One billiards room  Two squash courts  Several table tennis boards  Multiple badminton courts. There are two sporting activities every year- Urja – This is an intra-institute. Spread over three days during February/ March, learners are encouraged to participate in this event at least in the form of a spectator. Athletes are always inspired by the presence of a team of supporters. Urja not only tests one’s physical abilities in track and field events but also offers an opportunity for creating a familial bond among different members of learners. Twaran – Twaran is an inter IIITM athletics meet also held around February/ March every year. Students from four IIITMs in Allahabad, Jabalpur, Kanchipuram, and Gwalior take part in this track and field competition with zeal and enthusiasm. In addition to sporting glories achieved, Twaran provides a platform for interacting with IIITMians across India. The literary activities of ABV-IIITM are something to boast about. Students, research scholars, faculty, staff members, and alumni are free to contribute to the literary efforts of this institute. The institute issues magazines, newsletters, and reports for internal and online circulation. Issues are either in English or Hindi and are informative and entertaining. Magazines Abhishar – This internal publication in English is issued annually. Articles on various topics ranging from technology, economics, management, environment, social issues, sports, and entertainment are published in this magazine. Arunaday – This publication is entirely in Hindi beginning from the editorial. Contributions are made by learners, faculty members, and even members of staff. Our Alma Mater is an attempt of this institute to keep its alumni still associated with its happenings. It is also a platform where ex-students may share their experiences or thoughts with current generation of learners and teachers. This magazine in English is published yearly. Newsletters ‘Gunjan’, the online newsletter of this institute is published regularly. It is a quarterly edition and targets one topic at a time. The response is encouraging and more so because of its online accessibility. Anyone associated with this institute may contribute to this online newsletter. Annual Reports These are solely informative and issued by the institute every year. They are in fact a collection of all activities of the institute for a preceding year and meant for circulation among students, faculty members, staff, and visitors. We celebrate creative thoughts and knowledge among students through interactive sessions, classroom lectures and quiz rounds. Initiated in 2001 this is one of the more successful endeavours of this institute.

Hostel Facilities :

Students including research scholars are distributed in three boys’ hostels and one girls’ hostel. Every student has a well appointed single room to oneself. Rooms are internet accessible and are sufficiently illuminated and ventilated.Students can fit coolers in their rooms during summers while fitting an A.C. requires permission. Bathrooms are fitted with geysers for supplying hot water as and when necessary. Filtered drinking water is available throughout day and night in these hostels. Each hostel is provided with a reading room, badminton court and table tennis board for the recreation of boarders. The mess is, of course, an inseparable part of these hostels. Hostel residents are offered breakfast, lunch, and dinner on all days including holidays. However, mess charges separately for food served during vacations. Doctoral candidates with families could be allotted separate quarters within the campus subject to availability.

Alumni/Alumna :

Alumni meets are held every year where we students get the chance to meet our college's former students who either are shining in private sectors, doing industrial jobs or opted for higher studies to get guidance about career goals and how to achieve them. An alumni database is properly managed by T & P cell and can be checked on the institute's website.

Exam Structure :

The exams are sometimes hectic if you don't prepare yourself from the start and keep waiting for some magic until the last moment. Sometimes you have 3 minors (monthly exams) of 1-hour duration and 20 marks within 24 hours. The schedule comes out just a week before the exams. The syllabus is not much difficult, you should be attentive in class and put some efforts in practicing questions and to apply bookish knowledge to real world applications. The labs are intended for providing a visualization of what we have studied in books and in class in a better interactive way. It provides a hands-on experience as well as confidence in our gathered knowledge.

Admission :

I appeared for Gate while I was a final year B.Tech student. The results came out in March and I joined the CCMT counseling for getting admission in M.TECH program where I could choose between various NITs, IIITs, and other Centrally Funded Institutes and lock them according to my preference. The counseling was totally online and hassle free, it had three main rounds followed by a spot round. When I got the institute of my choice I freezed it by paying the allotment fees and went to the college with allotment letter and documents for admission as per the specifications on CCMT website. The admission procedure wasn't that difficult, it was pretty smooth and quick. The college administration was quite good and helping.

Faculty :

The faculty of my college is very highly qualified, with broad research areas and ample of publications and patents. I have seen the faculties of some NITs with much fewer qualifications than our faculty members. They are the best in their fields. Faculties like Prof. G. K. Sharma, Prof.Aditya Trivedi, Prof. S.G.Deshmukh (The Director), Prof. Rajendra Sahu add stars to the name of our college. They are highly reputed, experienced and best in their respective fields.

Admission:

The admissions in this college depends on the courses you select but the basic eligibility is that students must have scored 50% in 10+2 examination. B.tech applicants can directly apply through college website online and M.tech applicants are required to be graduates and have a score card. Similarly for MBA as well CAT scorecard is mandatory.

The placements in our college is satisfactory. The training and placement cell is really great in our college. This cell guides students from time to time about how to prepare for the aptitude tests and interview rounds of the company.
