My experience at SJIM

Remarks :

The application process involves the following steps:- The candidates are required to submit the application on the college website The candidates are required to undertake either CAT/MAT/XAT PGCET scores are not accepted The candidates are further called upon for a Personal interview. The personal interview is either carried out by a panel or a single person(Typically faculty). The candidates are also required to undergo something that's called essay writing. Since it was pandemic when I applied I was required to give an extempore speech on a current topic

Course Curriculum Overview :

The college follows a trimester system. The courses in the first year are uniform for all the students and the students must undergo the same. The subjects include Organisational behaviour, Corporate Finance, Operations, Marketing Management, HRM, etc. Additionally, all the first-year students are mandatorily required to take up BME ( Business and Management Environment). The BME is carried out to improve the presentation skills, communication skills, and the ability to think and analyze changing business landscape. In the second year, students are required to pick two specializations and the subjects of their choice and make up to a maximum of 53 credits. I had picked up HR and Marketing as my specialization. The courses offered in the second year for HR was taken up by college faculty, external faculty and industry experts.

Internships Opportunities :

The college does offer internship opportunities however the internships are mainly offered for the finance and marketing domain. It is very hard to find internships for HR and Operations. The college also requires the students to undertake an elaborate project/ study during the internship and many companies may not be able to offer an internship that suits the requirements mandated by the college. I had a hard time finding an internship in the HR domain as most companies would require the interns to be associated with them for a period 4-To 6 months. However, the college requires the students only to undergo an internship for 8 weeks. I had undergone an internship with Syngene International. It's a mandate that all the students complete their Summer Internship Programme, otherwise, they would not be awarded the PGDM completion certificate and they would have to undergo the SIP again the next year.

Placement Experience :

Placements of the college is up to the mark for a tier two business school. The college had appointed the director of Corporate relations who has been building the visibility of the college by building a robust alumni network. Up to 100 percent of the students are placed by the end of the final term. The highest package offered this year was INR 22 lakhs per annum. The return rate of companies who offer placements in the college year on year is quite high. This year companies like Goldman Sachs, Kaseya, TCS, Accenture, Indegene, EY, Deloitte, Morgan Stanley, Adecco, PwC, Hitachi, Reliance Retail, Landmark group, etc had visited. On average the students are offered a package of 7 - 7.5 lakhs PA.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The institute offers merit and merit cum scholarships for 30 students every year. The fees are paid in four installments. The first installment was Rs.200000, the second installment was Rs. 190000, the third installment students were required to pay Rs. 200000 and last installment of Rs 190000. The top 10 students of the first year and second year are offered merit scholarships. The college also offers scholarship for students from low-income families, families whose annual incomes are less than Rs 400000.

Campus Life :

The college hosts two management fests, an intra collegiate management fest and an intercollegiate management fest called 'Pinnacle' and 'Verve' respectively. The college also has four clubs namely:- HR, Finance, Marketing, and Operations. The college also hosts an intra collegiate business plan competition - " The First Pitch". The college clubs also host a plethora of events and competitions. The college also hosts an intra collegiate sports fest called JPL- Josephite Premier League. It's a legacy event for all the Josephites. The college also has CSR activities such as blood donation camps, the teach a child initiative, etc. The college also has an entrepreneurship cell with an incubation center. The building is one of its kind. The college has a library, a gym, an indoor sports space, a boys locker room, and girls lockers room, a student activity room, computer lab, seminar hall, an auditorium, and a hall.

Interview Experience :

Yes, I had undergone an interview, essay writing, and extempore speech segment as a part of the shortlisting process. In the personal interview, there were certain questions about current affairs, certain questions from the subjects that I had opted for my undergraduate specialization, and the area/segment for which I worked. For the essay writing a topic is given that is related to a current/ relevant business area

Other Applied Colleges

Christ University | MBA

The overall candidate experience was poor. Interview takers were asking personal questions

Curriculum from the university is transferred by the teachers in a digestive manner with all relevant example , live scenarios, case study activities and much more. The exams on average come after 3 months of a semester commencing , the difficulty towards the exam itself is moderate.

Placement Cell is very hardworking and they do provide placement support for all specializations but most of the jobs that are offered are marketing or customer support roles so it's always encouraged to look for job opportunities through other sources as well.

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities are excellent in Indus Business Academy. Alot of good companies come to the college for the placement and almost all the student get placed in a good company. iIf the student has payed attention in the classes and the tasks assigned then getting into a company is not difficult. The students start getting placed soon after the completion of first year. Compainies like Deloitte, KPMG, PWC, Colgate, Bata , GT and other good companies come to the college every year for the placements every year. The average package offered by the companies is 6.5 CGPA and it may increase this year. The student placement is 100%. I have also been selected in Deloitte for tax profile.
