Remarks
1-I applied for most of Bengal's prestigious colleges like IEM, Heritage, Netaji Shubhash and of course Jadavpur University. I ended up going to NPTI DURGAPUR for its well know single branch coree stream of Power engineering and also its presence only in two institutes i.e.Jadavpur and NPTI. 2-No quota availed, got it through WBJEE. 3-The last rank of admission was 4500, luckily I had 1993 as my WBJEE rank. Age, as was 17+nd admission criteria, were 60+ aggregate in 10th and 12th (8+ cgpa wise). 4- The admission process was smooth and faculties took care of minute details and processes.
Course Curriculum Overview
1-Chose this course because of its unique market demand in power sectors. 2-Faculty to students ratio would be 1:6. 3-Faculties were well qualified and professors of high ranks. 4-There were 8 semesters (2/yr) and passing the exams was not a piece of cake.
Placement Experience
1-From 7th sem placement starts, 2- In my final ye 4 companies visited and 15 offers were made, 3-highest package offered was 6.6lpa by Hindalco, Aditya Birla group. 4-33.33% got placed, 5-Exploring the core sector.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure was 54000/year(with hostel) and 43000/yr without hostel. There was no hike in the fees. Tuition fee waivers were given to those whose family income was less than 1.5 LPA/year. The scholarship was given under the name OASIS for financially challenged students every year.
Campus Life
1- Annual fest was held in the month of March with the name ZAPHYR. 2-All books and course related materials were readily available always. 3-Clasrooms had AC, Cctv cameras. 4-Cricket, volleyball, and Footba tournaments were held annually. 5- Clubs were not active much.
Hostel Facilities
1-Rooms were good with dual accommodation. 2-Meal quality was kind of medium to good. 3-Registration of the hostel was taken care of during the admission process. 4-Locality also had well accommodation like Pg where around 7 people could live comfortably.
