Remarks :

Good - ranked 14th (at my time) best engineering college in india under NIRF rankingsgood placement scenario with over 90% for most streams and companies ranging from google to amazon to tata recruit from final year ,rest students pursuing research.ample clubs from photography to chess to mountaineeringBad - lacks infrastructure and few extracurricular facilities compared to IIT s Admission Process - if your rank is good one needs to select preference of streams in WBJEE portal. After you are assigned a stream in JU there will be a final round for streams on campus (typically in july beginning) where you can change to a more preferred stream if theres a vacancyClasses commence from july end ,Keep checking JUMS official portalWebsites for selecting college - NIRF rankings ,Quora ,Career 360 ,Collegeduniya

Course Curriculum Overview :

This was my fifth preffered branch and my rank allowed me ME ,other than that love for physics and maths which is abundant in mechanical engineering made me chose this course student ratio 10 boys : 1 girlQualification of Faculty : Extremely qualified proffesors ,passouts of IITs ,some from JU having done PHDs from best of both indian and foreign colleges ,all of them having plenty areas of expertise and research papers publishedfriendly teachers overall ,in depth teaching Exams were timely , maximum delay of a week or so ,Questions ranged from moderate to hard , not that difficult to pass if you study effectively

Internships Opportunities :

Plenty companies recruit interns from 3rd year ,I have opted for few tho havent succesfuly cracked one yet so far Amazon ,Pwc ,Linkedin ,Tata metallics have recruited interns wuth stipends 40k ,30k ,40k ,60k respectively Companies like Tata Steel ,ZS are yet to come.I am currently pursuing a project on simulation of fluid flow through heart shaped cavities under proffer Nirmal Kr Manna from my own dept and am looking for project opportunities under proffesors from other colleges too.

Placement Experience :

Students are eligible for placements from 4 th year starting only. The good thing about JU is even if you are from a core branch you can sit for placements in tech giants like amazon ,google etc if you know coding.Companies like Google , Microsoft ,Siemens ,Tata steel ,Bajaj ,Deloitte ,Pwc ,Tcs ,ZS etc provide ample options for technical ,coding, consultancy jobs.Avg package and highest provided depends on your stream In CS/ IT the highest can go upto 50 60 lpa and avg lies around 12 - 14 lpain core departments like ME , highest goes upto 18 19 lpa and average lies around 7.5 to 9 lpaAlmost all students (85 to 100% ) in all branches get places in final year ,rest usually pursue higher studies or go into research lines or take off campus placements.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

10000 for 4 years Hostel facilities are provided to students eith family income less than 2.5 lpa ,they are provided financial assistance from the University tooFor rest of the students they usually take PG or room rent near the university which can cost from 4K to 8k per month for stayFood isnt that costly in Kolkata ,in PGs meals are provided for minimal amount

Campus Life :

There are both departmental fests and annual fests ,the biggest one being Sanskriti held in march ,the whole campus lights up and it feels like a carnival ,theres a Open Air Theatre were bands come and perform and students tend to stay all night in the campus .Theres a Central Library and a Departmental Library for each Department . You ll be given 5 library cards in exchange of which you can take books which are almost always available on any topic.Theres a huge football ground , a cricket pitch and a basketball court in the main campus ,there are clubs ranging from art ,chess , photography , mountaineering (conducts treks) in the main campus.a free gym ,an atm is also available inside the boundaries Theres a well maintained cricket pitch in the salt lake campus (4 streams are in salt lake campus) and a 50ft mountaineering structure.

Hostel Facilities :

I have rented a room in sulekha which is very close to campus ,costs 4.5 k a month has a kitchen and a bathroom .Its walking distance from JU or there are autos available for Rs 10As for food i shop myself and sometimes my mother stays with me and she cooks for us but yes there are meals available for 1.5 2k per month if you are living in PG nearby

Admission :

Only Written WBJEE test the paper has two parts ,one is a physics and chemistry paper for 2 hours followed by a one hour breakthen a math paper of 2 more hours questions overall are harder than JEE mains level ,and theres time crunch preparation should consist of learning theory well and practicing using mock tests with same number of question patern with a timer on .

Course Curriculum Overview:

B.Tech in CSE is future proof and a very good course for IT sector jobs and I was always excited working in these companies, that's why I choose the course. There are 10-12 faculties present in every department. Each faculty is M.Tech qualified and Drs. Their teaching quality is very good. 4 internal theory and 2 Lab exams happen each semester. The questions are standard, regular, and sincere students can easily pass.
