Rituparna Roy 's Review On Government College Of Engineering & Textile Technology - [GCETT], Serampore

Entrance Preview :

I took the Joint entrance examination of West Bengal, and with my rank this was the best government institute that I could go for.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course curriculum follows the WBUT syllabus and electives are chosen by the college only, according to which teachers are available. The subjects are interesting nevertheless, and also good from the point of view of higher education. Some additional subjects from the Computer Science stream are also available in case anyone wants to go for a multidisciplinary subject or simply has interest in one.

Internships Opportunities :

The college doesn't provide internships till now. Students have to apply for them individually. But teachers, atleast of EE, help a lot with regards to the same.

Placement Experience :

Placement scenario is about average. It's the best for CSE and lower than that for the other streams. Mostly software companies come and packages around 3-3.5 lpa. This year companies like Wipro, Capgemini, Tech Mahindra, Fusioncharts etc came to the campussing.

College Events :

There are 4-5 celebrations held every year including the Annual college fest, Freshers party, teachers day, independence day and technical fest. The participation is all the fests is huge and students tend to love to participate in them. Also the campus is sometimes open for public visits.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fee structure is quite feasible for EE students and others too in the same way. Students have to pay INR 4000 every semester, but there are additional scholarships for people who need them. So, it's quite feasible for everyone. Other details are available on college website.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

There are several options of scholarships such as TFW and Physically challenged which can be availed by deserving candidates at the time of filling the form of JEE.

Campus Life :

Campus life is a bliss mainly due to absence of ragging in the campus. Seniors are helpful and hence examples of tolerance is passed on via students year on year. Ratio of girls to boys is weak, but that is not a problem. Also, there are female teachers on the campus.

Hostel Facilities :

We live in a girls PG as the college does not have a girls hostel. But there are quite a few PG options near the college so lodging isn't a problem. Mess fees range from 1500-2000 for girls. Food is accessible as home delivery is very common and home made food is delivered.

Exam Structure :

Exam structure ensures that students study regularly. But they are not overly hectic. There are sufficient gaps between consequent exams. Also, teachers are helpful in this regard. So it is not that hectic and even weak or irregular students tend to cope up well with the system.

Admission :

The admission takes place through the online counselling of JEE after the results of JEE are declared, and students are required to fill out the college selection form according to their priority. The admission then takes place in 4 rounds wherein the student gets the best possible college for the rank obtained and has to report to the college for physical reporting until the choice is locked online by the student.

Faculty :

To speak about the faculty, teachers are quite helpful and understanding. They are up to date with recent trends and provide the opportunity to learn more if the student is willing. Also, special classes are held wherever there is a need. Many new teachers have come and the student teacher ratio is healthy now.

Course Curriculum Overview:

B.Tech in CSE is future proof and a very good course for IT sector jobs and I was always excited working in these companies, that's why I choose the course. There are 10-12 faculties present in every department. Each faculty is M.Tech qualified and Drs. Their teaching quality is very good. 4 internal theory and 2 Lab exams happen each semester. The questions are standard, regular, and sincere students can easily pass.
