Entrance Preview :

I took the WBJEE (West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination) and secured a rank of 5566. As per the colleges offered under my rank , I chose GCETTS as per the recommendation of the alumnus I knew and the placement records too.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course stretches over a period of 4 years , divided into 8 semesters with 6 or 7 subjects per semester. The first year gives weightage to the brushing up of 11th and 12th standard theories. It is only in the second year that the subjects corresponding with the streams are introduced. Practical classes alongside the theory ones were carried out for better grasping of concept.

Internships Opportunities :

As per internship goes , there are few scopes that my college has to offer. But there are contacts among professors for student exchange programs. Hence under the referral of a certain faculty member it is possible that a student does an internship under a professor of a prestigious institute.

Placement Experience :

The placement opportunities are immense if one avails it. If a student is well prepared there is no dearth of good job opportunities. From the 2012-2016 batch out of the total 34 student in our department , a total of 20+ students were placed in the campus placements with each student having a minimum of one job each. Companies like Wipro , Oracle , Hitachi , TCS , CTS , Tech Mahindra came for on campus placements with an average package of 3.5 lpa with Oracle offering the most , 4.2 lpa.

College Events :

Technical and cultural fest is the biggest attraction of our college which ranged over a 3 day festival. The first day was allotted to the tech fest with various events for college students where loads of other colleges were invited too with lots of prizes in offer. The second day has in store the freshers party and the farewell of the seniors. While the last day remains for the cultural fest , student and band performances.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The college does offer scholarship for students whose parents did not have income above a certain range. They were helped a lot with their college and hostel fees.

Campus Life :

The ratio of boys to girls would be around 5 to 1. The college being small , the students , both seniors and juniors alike live like a close knit family. Everyone is there for each other. Students from all walks of life , different cultures and communities come together for 4 years here. We have excellent lab facilities , annual sports meets , football and cricket tournaments .

Exam Structure :

Each semester came with two sets of internal exams and an end semester practical and theory exam. The internal exams each comprised of 30 marks each , and the end semester theory of 70 marks. The exams covered the whole syllabus hence the detailed studying was required which in turn lead to better grasping of concepts.

Admission :

The admission procedure was fairly a smooth one. So the first day was the counselling day when the colleges suitable for the corresponding rank was given , verified and the students had to keep track of their college of choice. Then if there was an upgradation possible , students opted for it ,otherwise they went with the best college that met their rank.

Faculty :

The Information Technology department of my college was beyond excellence. The faculty members , all well versed in their field of expertise , were always trying to help the students out . The classes never seemed boring. They agreed to clear the doubts even after classes or after college hours. They are patient even with the stupidest of questions. They carry out the practical classes with elan too.

Course Curriculum Overview:

B.Tech in CSE is future proof and a very good course for IT sector jobs and I was always excited working in these companies, that's why I choose the course. There are 10-12 faculties present in every department. Each faculty is M.Tech qualified and Drs. Their teaching quality is very good. 4 internal theory and 2 Lab exams happen each semester. The questions are standard, regular, and sincere students can easily pass.

College was good in terms of studies and many more. But now it fails in giving placement. Most of the students are still unemployed. Only 30% of the students are placed from college. Others have to find there own jobs.
