Remarks :
I applied for NIT Durgapur apart from Jadavpur. Jadavpur provides more exposure than NIT Durgapur. Many students of Jadavpur are top rankers in GATE, IES exams. Jadavpur is more well known than NIT Durgapur and more core companies come here for placement. The hostel condition in NIT Durgapur is not good but in Jadavpur, it is not mandatory to stay in a hostel I didn't avail quota. Jadavpur Engg is admitted only through WBJEE. The cutoffs vary from year to year. For my year, the cutoff ended at 500 ranks in WBJEE. Apart from this, one must get 70% marks in the class 12 exam and 60% marks in English in class 10 to get admission After 1 week of the declaration of results, counseling by WBJEE started. It occurred in 3 rounds. After the completion of 3rd round, you need to go to the Jadavpur University admissions website and with the correct details fill it up. Once, this process is completed, there is a decentralization round conducted within the university. You have to give your preferred branch and pay the amount.
Course Curriculum Overview :
Electronics is an emerging subject. It is also more exciting for people who don't wish to get a job in coding. More and more core companies are being set up in the world related to semiconductors. The job opportunities are increasing and hardware engineers are being given salaries equal to even more than software engineers. I also had a personal liking for this branch. The faculty-to-student ratio varies from branch to branch. In Electronics, it is 1:5, in CSE, IT, it is 3:1 and in mechanical, civil, and chemical, it is 9:1. All the teachers are very highly qualified with almost all having Ph.D. and some Post Docs in their respective teaching lines. However, the teaching method is not too good. Only a few teachers are able to explain the subject properly. The exams were not timely at all. The exams kept on postponing for a large number of times. The questions, however, were standard. It would be quite easy to pass if one knows the concepts properly.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
There is no fees hike at Jadavpur University. It has been almost constant for a very long time. The cost of study in Engineering is Rupees 11000 for complete 4 years for all the branches except IT. In IT, the cost of study for 4 years is Rupees 12,00,000. However, if any student is from TFW (Tuition Fee Waiver), he/she can approach the concerned authorities and their fees would be considered. I am currently studying in 2nd year and have not got any of these on campus. One can however grab internships in the 3rd year.
Campus Life :
Jadavpur's annual fest is Sanskriti.The Tech fest is Jadavpur Srijan.The fest Sanskriti is held in the month of March and Srijan is held in the month of February. The Central Library of Jadavpur is very well-equipped with books from all the branches. It even contains some of the rarest books to be ever found. It also houses a wide number of very informative journals about new discoveries in science and new inventions in technology. The classrooms are very well equipped. There are ACs in most of the classes and even the non-AC classrooms are quite well-ventilated. The classrooms are quite spacious with a sufficient number of desks Jadavpur has a number of clubs where one can participate. There are a total of 14 clubs and one can join in as many clubs as he/she wishes. There is quite a good facility for sporting activities. There are facilities for indoor and outdoor games.
