GCETTB Review

Remarks :

I have applied for many other private and government colleges in West Bengal. During the counselling process, I was selected for two other Government engineering colleges and a private institute in West Bengal. I upgraded my seat until I was selected in the Government College of Engineering and Textile Technology, Berhampore. The reason for choosing this institution over others is that this college is one of the most reputed government colleges in West Bengal. At first, the college had only Textile Technology Department but later on Computer Science and Engineering Department was established. After that two more branches were added, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering. To get into this college you have to appear for WBJEE Exam and must secure a good rank.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Since childhood, I had a passion to continue my higher studies in Computer Science and Software technologies, that's why I selected Computer Science and Engineering branch. In our college, there are 12 faculty members in the CSE department. Nearly 40 candidates can get into this college every year for the CSE branch. As a result faculty-student ratio is very good. The faculties here are highly qualified and they teach and everything clearly. They are also very friendly, anyone can ask their doubts and solve their queries. They teach everything from scratch and also take regular tests. Now about the exams, there are 4 internal exams (Continuous Assessment) and 2 semester exams in a year. There are also Practical Assessments. The difficulty level of these exams varies from moderate to tough. But I would say any hardworking student will definitely ace these exams with great marks.

Internships Opportunities :

Yes, one can get internships from college. Our college has a highly dedicated Training and Placement Cell that notifies every student about new internship opportunities. Many students are involved in different internships along with their academic studies.

Placement Experience :

I don't have much information about campus placements as I am in 1st year of college. But I have heard from the seniors, the highest package offered was Rs 20 lakhs per annum. The number of companies visited was around 18 as heard from my seniors.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fee for CSE is Rs 13,000 / yr and for other branches, it is Rs 6,500 / yr. You can easily get an opportunity for scholarships. Now for hostel fees, the rent for a student is Rs 50 / month and electricity is Rs 30 / month. The hostel can accommodate 100 students.

Campus Life :

The campus provides free wifi. There are also CCTV cameras for security. There is also a large air-conditioned auditorium which is one of the beautiful places on campus. "ALFRESCO", the techno-cultural fest is held every year. Apart from that Saraswati Puja organized by our college is one of the biggest attractions of Berhampore. During these celebrations, many kinds of cultural events are organized. The college library offers varieties of Science and Technological books and journals. Sports activities include football, cricket, etc. There are many clubs like Coding club, Music club, Dance club, etc. Everyone is allowed to take part in these clubs.

Course Curriculum Overview:

B.Tech in CSE is future proof and a very good course for IT sector jobs and I was always excited working in these companies, that's why I choose the course. There are 10-12 faculties present in every department. Each faculty is M.Tech qualified and Drs. Their teaching quality is very good. 4 internal theory and 2 Lab exams happen each semester. The questions are standard, regular, and sincere students can easily pass.

College was good in terms of studies and many more. But now it fails in giving placement. Most of the students are still unemployed. Only 30% of the students are placed from college. Others have to find there own jobs.
