Remarks :
Admission to the college is strictly based on marks the candidate scored in plus two examinations. There is no entrance test for admission. The college is near the national highway and because of easiness to access, I chose this college. I belong to the OBC category, but I do have enough marks to get admitted to the general quota. If you got anything above 85 percent in the higher secondary examination, then you can secure your seat in the case of arts subjects, which is not the case for science subjects. There are also few management seats besides the merit seats. The admission procedure was simple as now the university follows a fully digital allotment process. You have to download the admission memo from the university website, during the allotment process. On the day of admission, you need to go to college with the downloaded admission memo and your certificates. You can meet your department teachers and principal and after verifying certificates you have to pay fees, which is very nominal for merit candidates.
Course Curriculum Overview :
After plus two examinations I chose economics as my core subject, coming to know about the future scope of the subject. The economics department is one of the most active ones in the college with three faculty members, each of them qualified with good teaching skills and subject proficiency. The total seats for the course are 60 and in most years it gets completely filled. Teachers usually or most predominantly use the lecture methods in the classroom. However often some seminars and debates are organized for the students as well. Here university follows credit-based semester program, where examinations are conducted timely and results are published much faster than any other university in Kerala. One who is serious in his studies may not find it difficult to pass in the subject. It is not that tough at all. Securing above 70%marks in semester examinations is not that difficult task.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
If you are a candidate who got admission in merit quota then you have to pay some amount under 5000 for the whole course, which is three years. Fees are very low compared to any other private college in this area. You will have to pay a small amount as library fees and computer lab fees, which are included in the above-mentioned amount. If you belong to any minority community then you will receive E-grants scholarship from Kerala government. Besides you can get various other scholarships like central sector scholarship based on your higher secondary examination marks as well. College management also provides free lunch for some selected financially backward students as well. During my course of study, there were not any campus jobs with stipend available to the students. Students often do part-time jobs outside the college.
Campus Life :
Payyanur college used to be the champion in university arts festivals for a number of years. Usually, they are organized at the Christmas vacations. The talents of the students are fully nurtured and the college union plays a commendable role. The College library is one of the most important attractions of this institution. You can get almost everything you need for the course in the library. It also provides access to various journals and magazines to the students.Besides that the economics department got a mini library within it as well. Classrooms are smart class rooms with a projector. A mini-computer lab is also set up in the department besides the college lab. An economics forum is established which conducts programs on behalf of the department. Special coaching for UGC examinations and other competitive examinations are some commentable programs of the forum.
