I had given KCET in 2004 also AIEEE at the time. I ranked in the range of around 5000 in KCET, AIEEE didn't qualify, since i wasn't too much into the "have to get into NIT" kind of hysteria. I chose Computer Science out of absolute fascination for the subject. I knew it would be something that it would be fun to work with as well as have a great time.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum at the time was Ok. But some of the subjects which seem to there are like historical in nature. One of the subject i vividly remember is the Advanced Microprocessors subject, not the usual 8085/6 kind of stuff, but only microprocessors with which you don't get a chance to work at all. You have to remember the pins in/out etc. Which i don't think add any value at all to the overall understanding.
Internships Opportunities
At the time i was a part of the college, I wasn't aware of any companies coming to provide an internship or anything. Maybe currently it has changed. But yes there is potential in the place. There are some very good faculty who are good in coming up with terrific ideas.
Placement Experience
The placements and job opportunities are good. Its usually a pool campus recruitments that happen. i.e all colleges from DK, usually come together and announce that a particular company is coming. All candidates who qualify with the initial cut off can attend the interview. I was recruited in WIPRO. There was INFOSYS, SIEMENS, and other MNC's as well.
College Events
There were technical fests, cultural, I don't remember any management fests. Technical i remember - Jnana Sangama, usually students from all the nearby as well far off institutes come up to participate. It was started when we were in the final year. There is one cultural fest, but thats only for the different departments competing with each other within the college and not for outside. May be things have changed now.
Fee Structure And Facilities
At the time I was a student, we had a fee structure of around 16.7k for a free seat(CET allocated on GM Category), which comes around 22k with additional fees at the college. For a payment seat it would range from 45000 - 200000. Currently the situation is far more worse, for merit seat itself it costs some where from 35k to 60k, and payment seats start from 100k.
Fees and Financial Aid
I am not aware of any loan facilities that are available, but yes, deserving candidates usually could contact the management, who would definitely take up the matter and consider it.
Campus Life
Campus life is good. The college had taken a step so that all kind of inequality (economically) is taken care of by introducing uniforms for all students. There are also rules where you may not be carrying mobile phones etc. There are no parties or other things. But yes each department have their own associations which usually come up with workshops for students which give good exposure in the particular subjects.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni network is ok, not so good. Even I am part of the alumni network, usually with family and work, we may not be getting enough time to participate in those now. Maybe someday I will definitely revisit it for sure.
Exam Structure
For every semester it was like having 3 internal tests, for around 6 subjects and 3 labs.(Exception final two semesters). Internals are usually marked in 25, which is part of your final score i.e the semester exam for the subject would be out 125, 25 internal, 100 external. Depends on how you understand the subjects and other factors as well.
Admission
As i have detailed out in the previous question. I had gone through the CET seat allocation process. I chose VCET Puttur, and then gone ahead with the admission process that is there. Usually you have to take all your mark sheets as well as the CET hall ticket and rank sheet you get Also the fees to be deposited as a DD in favour of CET Cell karnataka at that time.
Faculty
The faculty at the time was capable enough. They had good knowledge of the subjects, and would go out of the way sometimes to help us to clear our doubts, or do those extra classes if needed. There were times when I personally felt that some of the subjects needed a better teacher, rather than the ones that were there.
