Remarks
Our college has won various awards for its remarkable success in its placement department. We have quickly become one of the top colleges to guarantee quality education and definite placement for every student. I would like to see my college conduct more cultural events in the future to enrich the social growth of its students.
Entrance Preview
Like all high school graduates, coming from a middle class Indian family, I was pretty much left with only 2 options after my 12th. To become an Engineer or Doctor. Of course, my primary interest was to become a doctor but I didn't score enough to land in a good medical college. So I had to go for engineering. I didn't take any special entrance exams to qualify for an engineering seat. All I had to do was attend the CENTAC counseling and voilà, I got the seat in only the 3rd best engg. college in my town. I chose Computer Science because it was the only thing I'm good at.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course structure and syllabus is as specified by the Pondicherry University, which is quite outdated, in my opinion. Unfortunately, ours was the last batch to have the most outdated syllabus. The next batch had some new concepts introduced as far as I heard. But nevertheless, syllabus wasn't as hard as that of Anna University. And we had no choice on our electives whatsoever, eventhough there were quite a load of options. The college will choose for you.
Internships Opportunities
I have no internship experience. But 4 of my juniors from ECE did get a 2 week chance to do their internship in an Indian based company called as 4Semi. I don't know about the stipend and all. But very frequently we were given certification courses such as OCJP, BEC, Big Data classes from EMC2, etc.
Placement Experience
Mostly MNCs like TCS, WIPRO, CTS, L&T, Accenture, Tech Mahindra, Amazon, Mbit, etc. had come during my time. I hear that every year they are bringing in new companies to recruit. Most of the students get placed in TCS and the rest. That is one of the best things about my college. They somehow find a way to get us placed in any IT company. There isn't much options for Core companies. Nothing that I'm aware of. But almost everyone manages to leave with a job offer at the end of their final year. So many campus drives and job fairs will be held and salary will be mostly around 3 l.p.a.
College Events
We had a lot of symposiums and conferences happening. It was mostly national or state level. Nothing too extravagant just enough to give us some exposure with participants coming mostly from neighboring colleges. We rarely had any cultural festivities.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fees is feasible especially for a CENTAC student. For a non-CENTAC student, the fees ranged from 50,000 to 80,000 per year. There are other fees such as hostel fees and transportation fees if you opt for them. Every year 25,000-29,000 rupees is paid by the government as tuition fees. For my first year, I had to pay an additional 11,000 for my books and stuff. Exam fees and due fees were reasonable. But the placement fees is what will be a burden during our pre-final semester. Every student invests 5-15k for for their placements alone.
Fees and Financial Aid
Scholarships were given to outstanding students whose annual family income was below a certain amount. I am not quite sure of the amount, although I'm guessing it's something around 1000-2000 rupees. I am not aware of any loan facilities available to the students.
Campus Life
Workshops are encouraged and conducted quite frequently. Robotics workshops are usually conducted by i3indya technologies, ExOR robotics, etc. I am personally a member of IWN which a club for the empowerment for women where they conduct frequent meetings and seminars about gender equality and ethnicity. One favorite thing about my college is that they conduct special seminars on technical and non-technical subjects by many motivational speakers. Sports is encouraged by conducting annual sports day every year and we get to participate in various inter-college competitions also.
Hostel Facilities
The hostels have clean rooms and good infrastructure. But they are quite strict about curfews and holidays. There are quite enough rooms that doesn't necessitate the need for PGs. Hostel fees are around 50k per year. The mess food is very average and the canteen offers non-veg food every Saturday.
Alumni/Alumna
Annual alumni meet is conducted every year and with the advent of Social networking , almost every passed out student is able to keep in touch with each other and with the administration of the college. Now and then, they visit the classes and give speeches about their life after college and also provide valuable advices and teach us aptitude to crack our interviews.
Exam Structure
Final exams weren't so hard because we take at least 3 internal tests and a compulsory model exam. So there's not pressure at the end while preparing for your finals. Plus they give us so many materials and previous years' exam question papers so it's quite easy to score good grades. Lab days were the best part of the weekdays.
Admission
There was an availability and they took me in. There isn't much to it. The admission process was quite simple. One of the perks of going through CENTAC is you don't have to pay the tuition fees at all. The government will do that for you, in the name of the PKFT fund. But that wasn't the case for the Management students. They had to pay the entire tuition fees plus a certain donation amount to get into the college.
Faculty
The faculty standard was pretty good during my first year. Interested and intelligent staffs were teaching us and subjects were a lot simpler when they taught us. But I have to say that as you enter into your specialized department, the staffs aren't as knowledgeable as you'd expect them to be. Some are exceptional while some have no idea what they're teaching at all. That is only because due to the lack of sufficient staff members, the college will assign subjects that aren't a speciality of a concerned staff. But mostly it's gold medalists and college toppers who become professors of my college.
