Remarks :

The institute overall has really good academic environment. The facilities are good. Only thing is we have just moved to our new campus at Vithura. So lots are staying back still in the transit campus.

Entrance Preview :

CSIR-UGC-NET Exam - National Rank 2. The only good institute near to my home and the area I liked for research was there in the Mathematics department.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course curriculum is really good with first year complete course work containing 4 courses. The minimum CGPA requirement is 7.0 out of 10.0 and there is a comprehensive written exam and oral exam after one year. The doctoral committee containing 3 members guided us well for the research work we are going to do. Then after the second year there is a presentation of our future works (JRF to SRF) in the presence of an external.

Internships Opportunities :

The college provided internship for BS/MS students. The general stipend was 5000/- per month with a hostel accommodation.

Placement Experience :

Almost all students were placed in some institutions or companies. Lots of BS-MS students are doing now PhD in universities like University of Brown, Rochester, Penn state, York, etc. After PhD all are doing post docs in different institution around the globe like AFIT, SUNY, etc. Companies like Infosys came for campus recruitment.

College Events :

The ISHYA was meant for cultural event at IISER-TVM and it is conducted every year in the month of March. The Science club every year organizes ANWESHA, the science fair. Also science day and the foundation day were celebrated with invited speakers. The cultural events like Diwali, Onam, Holi etc also celebrated full fledged in the transit campus.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fee structure is feasible for both BS-MS and PhD students. For BS-MS the fee will come around 21,000/- per semester for general candidates. For PhD students the fee was around 6,000/- for each semester. Fee waiver for SC/ST students are also there. In my opinion the fee structure is good and affordable for all.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

All BS-MS students those who score 6.0 above GPA was getting 5,000/- per year. I was getting 16,000/- per year for my first two years and 18,000/- per year next 3 years through CSIR JRF with a contingency grant of 20,000.

Campus Life :

The campus life was good with lots of fun and entertainment. There is a 50:50 gender ratio in the campus. The sports day was celebrated in October and we have a good gymnasium and good sports equipment. Cricket, football etc are the favorite games and lost of our students won several events at the inter IISER sports meet. The computer lab was really good with lots of computer and a really good library.

Hostel Facilities :

The hostels were good and room were sharing for BS-MS students and single room of PhD students. The mess food is average and mixed response among students. The hostel was free for all students and the mess fee was around 2,500/- per month for all which is affordable. The quality of food was ensured rather than taste by adding some unnatural things.

Alumni/Alumna :

There is a alumni network email id is given to contact all alumni students. But not that much activities happened yet as the institute is fairly new. but in the near future we are hoping that they will conduct some alumni meets and they will form some alumni association.

Exam Structure :

The exams were done in a quite and calm way. The schedule quite packed. As the semester is only for four months and there will be 2 mid term exams and one final exam. Also there are lots of assignment sessions. The exams are easy to tough type considering all kinds of students. Mid term exams were for 1 hour each and final 3 hours. There were some take home exams also.

Admission :

I got through interview. The interview was in May 2009. I applied once they advertised around March through newspapers. The process was easy and the administration was really helpful to go though the complete process. The admission was on August 1st, 2009 and the fellowship I got was CSIR JRF. They have given enough encouragement and good space for scientific research.

Faculty :

All faculties were well qualified. All are having PhD degree and post minimum 3 years doctoral experience. All were really good at their respective fields with enough knowledge on the subject. They were really friendly to students and having a really good passion for teaching. All were motivating students through out their teaching hours as they have lots of outside exposure.

Remarks:

College management is very strict about the rules and they do take action in case they are not followed. Management is very good, and so is security. The only con of the college is it's location, it is really far away from the city and there are no eateries nearby. If you have to get anything, you have to travel all the way to the city.
