Pros and Cons of PIET

Remarks :

The admission process for HSC cleared students begin in the month of August every year. If the student belongs to the First class division he/she is automatically redirected to the merit list. Rest students are divided based on category and management quota. My coaching educator suggested me this college as it was only 3rd in Nagpur for Chemical Engineering.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Course Curriculum for any discipline is basically designed by University which could be better with the inclusion of more industry exposure(being upgraded in upcoming years). The normal faculty to student ratio is 1:60 which is very well handled by core faculties to make sure every student gets equal and undivided attention. All of the core faculties have Ph.D. Degrees and are currently working on one or the other collaborative projects in their respective domain. There are 2 Curriculum Assessment Tests after completion of half syllabus and 1 Sessional Exam similar to those of University before giving Final University Exam so that students are well prepared.

Internships Opportunities :

I got 2 Internship opportunities(not through college) in Indorama Synthetics Pvt. Ltd. and Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers after 2nd and 3rd year respectively. My role as an Intern was to know the Chemical Process of the plant and catch the details of every piece of equipment involved in the process. I got to learn about HAZOP, Fire Safety, ETA, raw material testing, product testing, etc processes in detail. The internships were without stipends.

Placement Experience :

Students are eligible to sit for technical rounds only after the 7th Semester. While there are many opportunities for IT and CSE students not much for core Engineering branches. Authorities must try to include core Engineering jobs and take periodic sessions on GATE throughout the year. Most of the core Engineering students opt for higher studies in India and Abroad or they join their family businesses. I am trying to acquire a seat in M.Tech through GATE in one of the Nationally recognized universities in India.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

There is a 10% fee hike every year in the Engineering discipline as a whole. So the total cost would be around 4 Lakhs give or take. There are a variety of Scholarship Schemes available for students which are widely categorized as merit-based admission type, caste, and quota, all approved by the Government of India. The non-teaching staff is also very helpful if students face any difficulty filling out the forms. For the Chemical Engineering discipline, there were no on-campus jobs as such. Every branch was made to apply for IT and CSE jobs.

Campus Life :

The College campus is lively and the infrastructure is one of the unique all over Nagpur. There are a lot of extracurricular activities students can get involved in based on their interests like NCOAT Nirmiti, National Idea Contest which are Tech fests happening in September, and UDAAN, SAPTARANG is the annual fests occurring in March, etc. The Rotary Club of Nagpur, NCC are some of the clubs run by students incorporation with District Clubs. Teachers are very motivating and encourage students to participate in National and International contests, projects, and workshops.

As every Diploma passing student enters to degree college same process I went through. The faculty of the college are well educated and hardworking. As a student, you have to reach out to your faculty and maintain a good relation with them to get constant support from them. the ratio is 25:1. The teaching method of professors is very professional. Exams are as per the government regulations and the difficulty level is moderate for general students.

Remarks:

I love my college as the way it is, wouldn't change it for anything in the world.

Admission:

I was earlier classed into the pool of NRI students as I had completed my 10th and 12th graduation from abroad. I however did not want to register as an NRI student and wrote the MH-CET which is the state entrance exam and the field under which I chose it was engineering. I managed to attain a good rank and get admission into my required branch and field at Symbiosis Institute of Technology. I attempted the MH-CET exam some time around the beginning of May. I chose the course of Electronics and Telecommunication as it particularly interested me and the main interest in Symbiosis was generated through the fact that one of my cousins had studied there and overall I had heard a lot about Symbiosis especially in the Pune circle. The steps required in this process were i) Application through the Symbiosis Admission Portal ii) Attachment of all relevant documents for verification iii) A counselling session in which all the ranked candidates where invited and offered seats iv) A final verification and admission confirmation
